The Chaplin Revue
''The Chaplin Revue'' is a 1959 film comprising three silent films made by Charlie Chaplin. The three shorts included are '' A Dog's Life'', '' Shoulder Arms'', and '' The Pilgrim''. All three star Chaplin's trademark character, The Tramp. For the 1959 release, Chaplin added a soundtrack to help appeal to modern audiences. Chaplin also added extra footage including clips from to express the context. He provides a personal introduction to each of the clips. Current releases of the compilation on DVD also feature other Chaplin films produced with First National, including '' The Idle Class'', '' Pay Day'', '' A Day's Pleasure'', and '' Sunnyside'', with Chaplin's 1918 propaganda short '' The Bond'' as a special feature. Sir Charles Spencer Chaplin (16 April 188925 December 1977) was an English comic actor, filmmaker, and composer who rose to fame in the era of silent film. He became a worldwide icon through his screen persona, the Tramp, and is considered one of the film industry's most important figures. His career spanned more than 75 years, from his childhood in the Victorian era until a year before his death in 1977, and encompassed both accolade and controversy. David Robinson (film Critic And Author)
David Robinson (born 6 August 1930 in Lincoln) is an English film critic and author. He is a former film critic for both the ''Financial Times'' and ''The Times'' and wrote the official biography of Charlie Chaplin. Life Robinson began to write for ''Sight and Sound'' and the ''Monthly Film Bulletin'' during the 1950s, becoming assistant editor of ''Sight and Sound'' and editor of the ''Monthly Film Bulletin'' from 1957 to 1958. He was film critic of the ''Financial Times'' from 1958 to 1973, before taking up the same post at ''The Times'' in 1973. He remained the paper's main film reviewer until around 1990 and a regular contributor until around 1996. Henry Bergman
Henry Bergman (February 23, 1868 – October 22, 1946) was an American actor of stage and film, known for his long association with Charlie Chaplin. Biography Born in San Francisco, California, Bergman acted in live theatre, appearing in ''Henrietta'' in 1888 at the Hollis Street Theatre in Boston and in the touring production of '' The Senator'' in 1892 and 1893. He made his Broadway debut in 1899 appearing with Anna Held in ''Papa's Wife'', the musical hit of the year. He made his first film appearance with the L-KO Kompany in 1914 at the age of forty-six. Syd Chaplin
Sydney John Chaplin (; 16 March 1885 – 16 April 1965) was an English actor. Chaplin was the elder half-brother of actor and filmmaker Charlie Chaplin and in later life, served as his business manager. Through their mother Hannah, they were older half-brothers to the younger Wheeler Dryden, who grew up separately with his father in England and was not told about his half-brothers until 1915. Olga Edna Purviance (; October 21, 1895 – January 13, 1958) was an American actress of the silent film era. She was the leading lady in many of Charlie Chaplin's early films and in a span of eight years, she appeared in over 30 films with him.
