The Capital Region (Denmark)
The Capital Region (, ) was the administrative name of the municipalities of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg and the counties of Frederiksborg, Copenhagen, and Roskilde. It was replaced by the Capital Region of Denmark () as an administrative region on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform. The new region includes the island of Bornholm (in the Baltic Sea 100 nautical miles from Copenhagen), and excludes the southwestern parts of Greater Copenhagen that were covered by Roskilde County. These southwestern areas are instead included in Region Zealand (). Copenhagen Metropolitan Area
The Copenhagen metropolitan area or Metropolitan Copenhagen (, , literally "The Capital Area") is a large commuter belt (the area in which it is practical to commute to work) surrounding Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark. It includes Copenhagen Municipality, Frederiksberg and surrounding municipalities stretching westward across Zealand. It has a densely populated core surrounded by suburban settlements. The metropolitan area has several current definitions and also some historical, now defunct, definitions. The most widely accepted is the area which is strategically managed by the Finger Plan. The modern post 2007 version includes the four provinces ''Københavns by'' (Copenhagen city), ''Københavns omegn'', ''Nordsjælland'' and ''Østsjælland'', with a total land area of 2 778 km2 and over 2 million inhabitants (16 March 2018;updated statistics from 1 January 2018 on cities (Danish ''byer'', (singular) ''by'') published later). Municipalities Of Denmark
Denmark is divided into five regions of Denmark, regions, which contain 98 municipalities (, ; , ). The Capital Region of Denmark, Capital Region has 29 municipalities, Region of Southern Denmark, Southern Denmark 22, Central Denmark Region, Central Denmark 19, Region Zealand, Zealand 17 and North Denmark Region, North Denmark 11. The government intends to merge R. Hovedstaden with R. Sjælland 1 January 2027 to form Region Østdanmark (Region of Eastern Denmark). The regional council will have 47 members, and will be elected Tuesday 18 November 2025 in the ordinary 2025 Danish local elections. Copenhagen Municipality
Copenhagen Municipality (), also known in English language, English as the Municipality of Copenhagen, located in the Capital Region of Denmark, is the largest of the four municipalities that constitute the City of Copenhagen (), the other three being Dragør Municipality, Dragør, Frederiksberg Municipality, Frederiksberg, and Tårnby Municipality, Tårnby. The Municipality of Copenhagen constitutes the historic city center and the majority of its landmarks. Frederiksberg Municipality
Frederiksberg Kommune is a municipality ( Danish, '' kommune'') on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in Denmark. Part of the Capital Region of Denmark and the city of Copenhagen, it is surrounded by Copenhagen Municipality. The municipality, co-extensive with its seat, covers a total area (land and water) of according to the Municipal Key Figures and has a population of 105,840 (1. January 2025) making it the smallest municipality in Denmark area-wise, the seventh most populous, and the most densely populated. Its mayor is Michael Vindfeldt from the Social Democrats serving from 1 January 2022. Counties Of Denmark
The Counties of Denmark () were former subdivisions of metropolitan Denmark and overseas territories, used primarily for administrative regions, with each county having its own council with substantial powers. Originally there had been twenty-four counties, but the number was reduced to roughly fourteen in 1970 – the number fluctuated slightly over the next three decades. In 2006 there were thirteen traditional counties as well as three municipalities with county status (the island of Bornholm, which was a county from 1660 until 2002, became a ''regional municipality'' with county powers, but only briefly from 2003 until 2006). Copenhagen County () is a former county ('' amt'') on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. It covered the municipalities in the metropolitan Copenhagen area, with the exception of Copenhagen and Frederiksberg. Roskilde County
Roskilde County () is a former county () on the island of Zealand (''Sjælland'') in eastern Denmark. The county was abolished effective January 1, 2007, when it merged into Region Sjælland (i.e. ''Region Zealand''). Roskilde is also the name of the county's capital, and the name of a municipality (). The small city of Roskilde is located 30 km west of Copenhagen. Capital Region Of Denmark
The Capital Region of Denmark (, ) is the easternmost administrative region of Denmark, and contains Copenhagen, the national capital. The Capital Region has 29 municipalities and a regional council consisting of 41 elected members. As of 1 August 2021, the chairperson is Lars Gaardhøj, who is a member of the Social Democrats party of Denmark. The Capital Region was established on 1 January 2007 as part of the 2007 Danish Municipal Reform. This reform abolished the traditional counties (Danish plural: , singular: ) and created five regions. As part of this reform, 271 smaller municipalities were merged into larger units, reducing the number of municipalities to 98. Copenhagen Zoo
Copenhagen Zoo () is a zoological garden in Copenhagen, Denmark. Founded in 1859, it is one of the oldest zoos in Europe and is a member of EAZA. It comprises and is located in the municipality of Frederiksberg, sandwiched between the parks of Frederiksberg Gardens and Søndermarken. With 1,571,331 visitors in 2019 it is the most visited zoo and one of the most visited attractions in Denmark. Stevns Municipality
Stevns Municipality () is a '' kommune'' in the Region Sjælland on the southeast coast of the island of Zealand in south Denmark. The municipality covers an area of , and has a population of 23,612 (1 January 2025). The municipality covers most of Stevns Peninsula. The third largest town and the site of its municipal council is the town of Hårlev.
