The Busy Barber
''The Busy Barber'' is a short animated film by Walter Lantz Productions, starring Oswald the Lucky Rabbit. It is the 64th Oswald short by Lantz and the 116th in the entire series. Plot Oswald opens a barber shop. A hippo kid and his father are walking along as the hippo kid sucks on a peppermint candy. A dog steals the hippo's candy, causing him to cry. His father then decides to take the barber pole and give it to his son to lick as a giant peppermint candy, much to the son's joy. Oswald notices his barber pole being stolen but is unable to stop the hippo dad from taking it. Oswald then notices a tiger sleeping on the ground, deciding the tiger's striped tail to be a good substitute. The rabbit then picks up a saw and cuts the tail off the big cat. Oswald returns to the location of his shop, and sticks the tail on the street just in front. In no time, customers start to come inside. Walter Lantz
Walter Lantz (April 27, 1899 – March 22, 1994) was an American cartoonist, animator, producer and director best known for founding Walter Lantz Productions and creating Woody Woodpecker. Biography Early years and start in animation Lantz was born in New Rochelle, New York, to Italian immigrant parents Francesco Paolo Lantz (formerly Lanza) and Maria Jarvis (changed to Jarvis to avoid prejudice) from Calitri. According to Joe Adamson's biography ''The Walter Lantz Story'', Lantz's father was given his new surname by an immigration official who anglicized it. Walter Lantz was always interested in art, completing a mail-order drawing class at age 12. He was inspired when he saw Winsor McCay's animated short " Gertie the Dinosaur". While working as an auto mechanic, Lantz got his first break. Bill Nolan (animator)
William Charles Nolan (June 10, 1894 – December 6, 1954) was an American animated cartoon writer, animator, director, and cartoonist, artist. He is best known for creating and perfecting the rubber hose animation, rubber hose style of animation and for streamlining Felix the Cat. Career Nolan first began his career in 1913 as a newspaper cartoonist, then worked for Raoul Barre and King Features Syndicate, Kings Features until 1918. Then, in 1924 to 1926, he animated and designed Felix the Cat. He then moved to Winkler to animate on Krazy Kat again. Nolan went to the Walter Lantz Productions, Walter Lantz Studio from 1929 until 1935, where he animated and briefly voiced Oswald the Lucky Rabbit.
