The Breakthrough (TV Series)
''The Breakthrough'' (''Genombrottet'') is a 2025 Swedish limited crime drama television series directed by Lisa Siwe and produced by FLX for Netflix. It is based on a non-fiction book by journalist Anna Bodin and genealogist Peter Sjölund about how the 2004 murders of Mohammed Ammouri and Anna-Lena Svensson were finally solved in 2020 through forensic genetic genealogy. It premiered on Netflix on 7 January 2025. Premise In 2004, an eight-year-old boy and a 56-year-old woman are stabbed to death in broad daylight in the Swedish city of Linköping. In spite of spending more than 15 years on the case, making it the largest criminal investigation in Swedish history (except for the one after the assassination of Olof Palme in 1986), the police can't find the murderer and the lead investigator is told to close down the investigation. Nordic Noir
Nordic noir, also known as Scandinavian noir, is a literary genre, genre of crime fiction usually written from a police point of view and set in Scandinavia or the Nordic countries. Nordic noir often employs plain language, avoiding metaphor, and is typically set in bleak landscapes. This results in a dark and morally complex mood (literature), mood, in which a tension is depicted between the apparently still and bland social surface and the patterns of murder, misogyny, rape, and racism the genre depicts as lying underneath. Jan Egon Staaf (born 11 January 1962 in Västerås) is a Swedish ex-race walker . He twice competed for his country at the Summer Olympics: in 1988 and 1996. Staaf set his personal best (1:22.37) in the men's 20 km walk event in 1997. Jan Staaf is a detective inspector and works as an investigation leader in serious crimes.
