The Border Cavalier
''The Border Cavalier'' is a 1927 American silent Western film directed by William Wyler and written by Basil Dickey and Gardner Bradford. The film stars Fred Humes, Evelyn Peirce, C.E. Anderson, William Barrymore, Joyce Compton, and Dick La Reno. The film was released on September 18, 1927, by Universal Pictures. Plot As described in a film magazine, Victor Harding, a crooked Eastern land speculator, has inside dope on a new railroad spur which will increase the value of the Lawton ranch. He conspires with Hank Martin, a roadhouse proprietor, to buy the ranch before Lawton learns about it. He falls in love with Madge, the daughter of the owner, who has a beautiful singing voice, and he urges her and her father to sell the ranch and go to New York where Madge could receive vocal training. William Wyler
William Wyler (; born Willi Wyler (); July 1, 1902 – July 27, 1981) was a German-born American film director and producer. Known for his work in numerous genres over five decades, he received numerous awards and accolades, including three Academy Awards. He holds the record of twelve nominations for the Academy Award for Best Director. For his oeuvre of work, Wyler was awarded the Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award, the Directors Guild of America Lifetime Achievement Award – Feature Film, Directors Guild of America Lifetime Achievement Award, and the American Film Institute AFI Life Achievement Award, Life Achievement Award. Wyler immigrated to the United States in 1921 where he worked first for Universal Pictures, Universal Studios in New York before moving to Los Angeles. Gilbert Holmes (actor)
Gilbert "Pee Wee" Holmes was a Canadian actor and stunt performer known for his short stature. He appeared in more than 70 Hollywood films between 1920 and 1934, and often co-starred in Tom Mix comedy Westerns. Biography Gilbert was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, and raised in Miles City, Montana. Before he became an actor, he competed in rodeos around the United States. In the early 1920s, he began appearing in Hollywood westerns. During that decade, he and Ben Corbett produced and starred in a series of comedy shorts that ran before Universal's feature-length Westerns. He died on August 17, 1936, in Los Angeles, California. Winfield Scott Mattraw (October 19, 1880 – November 9, 1946) was an American actor. He provided the voice of Bashful in Walt Disney's ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs''. Early life The son of William Henry and Philamon Dano Mattraw, Winfield Scott Mattraw was born in Black River, New York, on October 19, 1880. His father farmed and worked for the New York Air Brake company. Mattraw was educated in Black River schools. His early employment included driving for American Express Company. Career Mattraw was already a comedian and a theatrical promoter and manager when, at age 27, he became manager of the City Opera House in Watertown, New York. He held that job for 12 years. He left his position with the opera house after it was sold, with the new owners planning to convert the theater into a venue for films.
