The Block Signal
''The Block Signal'' is 1926 American silent drama film directed by Frank O'Connor and starring Ralph Lewis, Jean Arthur, and Hugh Allan. It was produced by the independent company Gotham Pictures. Synopsis A veteran railroad engineer discovers that his eyesight is failing and he is becoming colorblind. Bert Steele his fireman who craves promotion deliberately misleads him about a signal leading him to be demoted. Jealous and frustrated by his unrequited love for the engineer's daughter Grace, Steele considers a more direct form of sabotage. Frank O'Connor (director)
Frank O'Connor (died November 22, 1959) was an American character actor and director involved in approximately 300 productions. He was a director of several films; he also penned multiple screenplays. Career In 1920, Frank O'Connor arrived in Hollywood, where he joined the Lasky Players. Henry Miller mentored him. Later, O'Connor was a freelance writer and character actor. After a career as a film director, he attempted to produce his own and, in the words of the ''San Francisco Examiner'', "went broke"; he subsequently worked as an extra. Personal life O'Connor was married to a woman named Susan, and they had three children; he died in Los Angeles, California on November 22, 1959, at 78 years old. The driver interprets the signal's indication and acts accordingly. Typically, a signal might inform the driver of the speed at which the train may safely proceed or it may instruct the driver to stop.
