The Bishop Blaize
The Bishop Blaize is a pub in Stretford, Greater Manchester, England. It plays an important part in the fan culture of Manchester United F.C. being the closest pub to Old Trafford. It is operated by Wetherspoons. It is the gathering point for the 'most passionate supporters' in the hours before a game. It has also been described as having 'unique charm'. History The pub opened 24 May 2000. In 2011 the pub was the target of graffiti referring to the Munich Air Crash. It has also been the target of anti-Glazer graffiti. In 2016 a complaint was raised that prices increased on match days, as well as the end of the practise whereby regulars could still buy drinks at the ordinary price. The pub defended itself, highlighting that the practice of match day prices was entirely legal, and that it is required to cover the cost of doormen, who are only used on match days, as well as the increased number of staff. Saint Blaise
Blaise of Sebaste (, ''Hágios Blásios''; martyred 316 AD) was a physician and bishop of Sivas, Sebastea in historical Lesser Armenia (modern Sivas, Turkey) who is venerated as a Christian saint and martyr. He is counted as one of the Fourteen Holy Helpers. Blaise is a saint in the Catholic Church, Catholic, Western Rite Orthodoxy, Eastern Orthodox Churches, Eastern Orthodox and Oriental Orthodox Churches and is the patron saint of wool combers and of sufferers from Otorhinolaryngology, ENT illnesses. In the Latin Church, his feast falls on 3 February. In the Eastern Churches, it is on 11 February. Bridgewater Canal
The Bridgewater Canal connects Runcorn, Manchester and Leigh, Greater Manchester, Leigh, in North West England. It was commissioned by Francis Egerton, 3rd Duke of Bridgewater, to transport coal from his mines in Worsley to Manchester. It was opened in 1761 from Worsley to Manchester, and later extended from Manchester to Runcorn, and then from Worsley to Leigh. The canal is connected to the Manchester Ship Canal via a lock at Cornbrook; to the Rochdale Canal in Manchester; to the Trent and Mersey Canal at Preston Brook, southeast of Runcorn; and to the Leeds and Liverpool Canal at Leigh. It once connected with the River Mersey at Runcorn but has since been cut off by a slip road to the Silver Jubilee Bridge. James Brindley
James Brindley (1716 – 27 September 1772) was an English engineer. He was born in Tunstead, Derbyshire, and lived much of his life in Leek, Staffordshire, becoming one of the most notable engineers of the 18th Century. Born in the Peak District, which in those days was extremely isolated, Brindley received little formal education, but was educated at home by his mother. At age 17, encouraged by his mother, he was apprenticed to a millwright in exceptional skill and ability. Having completed his apprenticeship he set up business for himself as a wheelwright in Leek, Staffordshire. In 1750 he expanded his business by renting a millwright's shop in Burslem from the Wedgwoods who became his lifelong friends. The Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) is an independent voluntary consumer organisation headquartered in St Albans, which promotes real ale, cider and perry and traditional British pubs and clubs. History The organisation was founded on 16 March 1971 in Kruger's Bar, Dunquin, County Kerry, Ireland, by Michael Hardman, Graham Lees, Jim Makin, and Bill Mellor, who were opposed to the growing mass production of beer and the homogenisation of the British brewing industry. The original name was the Campaign for the Revitalisation of Ale. Following the formation of the Campaign, the first annual general meeting took place in 1972, at the Rose Inn in Coton Road, Nuneaton. Nicky Butt
Nicholas Butt (born 21 January 1975) is an English football coach and former player who was most recently the head of first-team development at Manchester United. He is also a co-owner of Salford City. Butt played professional football as a midfielder from 1992 to 2011. Joseph Denis Irwin (born 31 October 1965) is an Irish former professional footballer and sports television presenter.
