''The Baseball Bug'' is a 1911 silent film comedy short produced by the Thanhouser Company. It starred John W. Noble and Florence La Badie. Thanhouser Company
The Thanhouser Company (later the Thanhouser Film Corporation) was one of the first motion picture studios, founded in 1909 by Edwin Thanhouser, his wife Gertrude Thanhouser, Gertrude and his brother-in-law Lloyd Lonergan. It operated in New York City until 1920, producing over a thousand films. Corporate history Edwin Thanhouser constructed a studio in New Rochelle, New York. The company thrived under his leadership and by the summer of 1910, it had established itself as the best of the independents in the industry. Frank E. Woods of the American Biograph Company would pen an editorial in ''The New York Dramatic Mirror'' as "The Spectator", praising the Thanhouser company to this effect. Charles Albert "Chief" Bender (; May 5, 1884There is uncertainty about Bender's birth-date. He was voted the SABR "Centennial Celebrity" of 1983, as the best baseball player or figure born in 1883. However, the SABR ''Baseball Research Journal'' for 1983 acknowledges that there are discrepancies in records about Bender's birth year, ranging from 1883 to 1885. Edwin Thanhouser (November 11, 1865 – March 21, 1956) was an American actor, businessman, and film producer. He was most notable as a founder of the Thanhouser Company, which was one of the first motion picture studios. His wife Gertrude Thanhouser and brother-in-law Lloyd Lonergan were co-founders. Biography Thanhouser was born in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1893, he joined the traveling company of Alessandro Salvini. After Salvini's unexpected death in 1896, Thanhouser managed the Academy Theater in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, for the Shubert family and then the Bush Temple Theater in Chicago, Illinois. He formed a stock company that put on hundreds of theatrical productions. On February 8, 1900, Thanhouser married actress Gertrude Homan. Rube Oldring
Reuben Henry "Rube" Oldring (May 30, 1884 – September 9, 1961) was a professional baseball player who played outfield in the major leagues from 1905 to 1918. He played for the Philadelphia Athletics and New York Yankees. Early life Oldring was born in New York City and attended Bridgeton High School in Bridgeton, New Jersey. He started his professional baseball career in the Southern Association in 1905. That October, he was drafted by the Philadelphia Athletics in the Rule 5 draft. Baseball career From 1907 to 1915, Oldring was a regular outfielder on the A's. He played in three World Series with them. He hit .194 (12-for-62) with 7 runs, 1 home run and 3 RBI in 15 postseason games. Harry Richard "Cy" Morgan (November 10, 1878 – June 28, 1962) was an American Major League Baseball pitcher with the St. Louis Browns, Boston Red Sox, Philadelphia Athletics and the Cincinnati Reds between 1903 and 1913. Morgan batted and threw right-handed. He was born in Pomeroy, Ohio He helped the Athletics win the 1910 and 1911 World Series.
