The Barren Zone
is a novel by Toyoko Yamasaki. It was serialized in the weekly magazine ''Sunday Manichi'' from 1973 to 1978. The novel was partially adapted into a film starring Tatsuya Nakadai and directed by Satsuo Yamamoto in 1976. It was later adapted into two television miniseries in 1979 and 2009. Synopsis Tadashi Iki is captured during the invasion of Manchuria and returns to Japan after being interned for over a decade in Soviet labor camps. Hideo Takamatsu
was a Japanese actor from Nankoku, Kōchi Prefecture. Takamatsu appeared in more than 120 films between 1948 and 2007. Profile In 1951, he signed his contract with Daiei film company. Two years later, Takamatsu made his film debut with ''Ikare Sanppie'', playing the role of lover of the main character played by Ayako Wakao. He was highly praised for his performance in such films as '' Giants and Toys'', ''The Black Report'' and '' The Graceful Brute'' and became a well-reputed supporting actor. In 1962, he left Daiei and became a freelance actor. He won TV Guide Best Performer Award for his role in the Asadora series ''Kumo no jūtan'' in 1976. Hideji Ōtaki
was a Japanese actor. He served as President of the Mingei Theatre Company. Career After serving in World War II, he became interested in the theater and helped found the Gekidan Mingei troupe in 1950. He gained fame for his television work from the 1970s, but he also appeared in many films, especially those of Juzo Itami. His last film, '' Anata e'', starring Ken Takakura, was released a few months before his death. He died of lung cancer at his home in Tokyo on 2 October 2012.
