The Artificial Heart
The Artificial Heart is an Austin, Texas-based band featuring Rory Phillips and Craig Tweedy, both formerly of The Impossibles. It also featured guitarist Scott Clapsaddle, vocalist Andrew Collins, and drummer Santiago "Jimmy" Vela III. History The band's beginnings can be traced as far back as 2004, when Rory begin the project Nineteen Ninety-Now with Scott Clappsaddle. The short lived project produced the song "Love Won't Be Enough", which has since become part of The Artificial Heart's live shows. Phillips rejoined with The Impossibles bassist Craig Tweedy and the band changed their name. The band name began as Rory and the Artificial Heart, but has since been shortened to just The Artificial Heart. Rory and the Artificial Heart began posting songs on their Myspace page in the spring of 2006. Phillips has produced all of the band's material and the early demo recordings were recorded on his own. The Impossibles (1994–1998, 2000–2002, and 2012) are a rock music band from Austin, Texas, originally on the Fueled by Ramen label. They played ska punk prior to their first break-up in 1998, but transitioned to a more indie rock/alternative sound upon reuniting. In their time together, The Impossibles played shows with Less Than Jake, Sugarcult, The Toadies, Recover and others. Cruiserweight was an American rock band from Austin, Texas, United States. The band consisted of vocalist Stella Maxwell, guitarist Urny Maxwell, bassist David Hawkins, and drummer Yogi Maxwell. The band's sound was defined by peppy female vocals, as well as fast, sometimes aggressive instrumentals, while still retaining a pop/punk overtone. The name originated from the boxing weight class of the same name. History Prior to Cruiserweight, brothers Urny and Yogi Maxwell had been in a little-known band called Red Boxing from 1996 to 1998. Samiam (pronounced "sam-I-am") is an American punk rock band from Berkeley, California, active since 1988. History Samiam was formed in late 1988 after the breakup of the 924 Gilman Street, Gilman club mainstay Isocracy (band), Isocracy. Their first show was in January 1989 with Christ on Parade. They released records through New Red Archives and Hopeless Records in the US and Burning Heart Records in Europe. In the mid-'90s, the band was signed to Atlantic Records, releasing their major label debut Clumsy (Samiam album), ''Clumsy'' in 1994. Their video for single "Capsized" gained considerable airplay on MTV. Samiam performed on ''The Jon Stewart Show'' in 1994. Sparta is an American rock band from El Paso, Texas, formed in 2001. The band currently consists of Jim Ward (vocals, guitar) and Matt Miller (bass), who are touring as a three-piece with rotating session drummers. Founding members Ward, Paul Hinojos, and Tony Hajjar were members of post-hardcore group At the Drive-In, forming Sparta in 2001 after the break-up of their former band. The band went on hiatus in 2008 for Ward to focus on his solo career and side projects, reuniting from 2011 to 2013 for a series of shows and permanently reuniting in 2017. James David Ward (born September 19, 1976) is an American musician. A self-taught guitarist and pianist, he is the lead singer and guitarist for the alternative rock band Sparta, with whom he has recorded five studio albums. Ward is also a co-founder of the post-hardcore band At the Drive-In, which he formed in 1994 with Cedric Bixler-Zavala. Between 1996 and 2000, At the Drive-In released three studio albums and several EPs to widespread critical acclaim and an increasing cult fanbase. Recover is an American rock band from Austin, Texas. History Recover is a post-hardcore band composed of Dan Keyes (guitar/vocals), Robert Mann (guitar/vocals), Ross Tweedy (bass), and Santiago "Jimmy" Vela III (drums). The band recorded a four-song demo in the spring of 2000. The demo found its way to Fueled by Ramen Records via the band's friends in fellow Austin band The Impossibles. The band later released their debut album, ''Rodeo & Picasso'', in the summer of 2001. The band toured extensively in support of the album, and in 2002, released a follow-up EP on Fiddler Records, ''Ceci n'est pas recover''.
