Edgar Lewis (director)
Edgar Lewis ( – May 21, 1938) was an American film director. Two of his most famous films were ''The Great Divide (1925 film), The Great Divide'' (1925) and ''The Barrier (1926 film), The Barrier'' (1926). He directed early silent films starring Douglas Fairbanks, William Farnum, Mary Pickford, and Norma Talmadge. Career He began his career as a stage actor and entered the film industry in 1911 as an actor, making his directorial debut two years later. Specializing in action-adventure films and westerns, he directed dozens of pictures between 1913 and 1930, when he left directing and returned to his first love, acting. Most of his films during the sound era were in bit parts or uncredited roles. He appeared in his final film, ''Riding Wild.'' He retired in 1935. He died in Los Angeles in 1938. Winfield Scott Mattraw (October 19, 1880 – November 9, 1946) was an American actor. He provided the voice of Bashful in Walt Disney's ''Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs''. Early life The son of William Henry and Philamon Dano Mattraw, Winfield Scott Mattraw was born in Black River, New York, on October 19, 1880. His father farmed and worked for the New York Air Brake company. Mattraw was educated in Black River schools. His early employment included driving for American Express Company. Career Mattraw was already a comedian and a theatrical promoter and manager when, at age 27, he became manager of the City Opera House in Watertown, New York. He held that job for 12 years. He left his position with the opera house after it was sold, with the new owners planning to convert the theater into a venue for films. Gilbert Holmes (actor)
Gilbert "Pee Wee" Holmes was a Canadian actor and stunt performer known for his short stature. He appeared in more than 70 Hollywood films between 1920 and 1934, and often co-starred in Tom Mix comedy Westerns. Biography Gilbert was born in Saskatchewan, Canada, and raised in Miles City, Montana. Before he became an actor, he competed in rodeos around the United States. In the early 1920s, he began appearing in Hollywood westerns. During that decade, he and Ben Corbett produced and starred in a series of comedy shorts that ran before Universal's feature-length Westerns. He died on August 17, 1936, in Los Angeles, California. Margaret Gray (1913–2010) was a teacher and school head, most notably serving as head of the Godolphin and Latymer School from 1963 to 1973. The daughter of a minister, she moved from Scotland to London at age 11. She was schooled in Brighton, and educated at Newnham College of Cambridge University, and Smith College.
