''Ghetto Freaks'' is a 1970 American independent hippie exploitation film directed by Robert J. Emery and written by John Pappas and Robert J. Emery. It was filmed entirely in Cleveland, Ohio, and originally opened in Cleveland under the title ''Sign of Aquarius'', alternately titled ''Love Commune''. Shortly after that, the film was retitled ''Ghetto Freaks'' and edited to include two additional minutes of footage showing a young, handsome black man performing a blood ceremony with a group of robed young women. The ''Ghetto Freaks'' version was marketed as a blaxploitation film, despite almost all the film's actors, including the male and female leads, being white. Alan Samuel Lyle-Smythe MBE, M.C. (9 November 1914 – 1 October 2006), who wrote under the name Alan Caillou, was an English-born author, actor, screenwriter, soldier, policeman and professional hunter. Biography Alan Lyle-Smythe was born in Surrey, England. Prior to World War II, he served with the Palestine Police from 1936 to 1939 and learned the Arabic language. He was awarded an MBE in June 1938. He married Aliza Sverdova in 1939, then studied acting from 1939 to 1941. In January 1940, Lyle-Smythe was commissioned in the Royal Army Service Corps. Due to his linguistic skills, he transferred to the Intelligence Corps and served in the Western Desert, in which he used the surname "Caillou" (the French word for 'pebble') as an alias. Winston Miller (June 22, 1910 – June 21, 1994) was an American screenwriter, film producer, and actor. He wrote for more than 60 films and television shows between 1936 and 1976. He began as an actor in silent films, appearing in eleven films between 1922 and 1929. Don McDougall (born September 28, 1917 – February 7, 1991) was an American television director and screenwriter. McDougall directed numerous episodes of television shows including '' Wanted: Dead or Alive'', '' Rawhide'', ''Bonanza'', ''Mannix'', '' Ironside'', '' Star Trek: The Original Series'', ''The Six Million Dollar Man'', and ''CHiPs''. José Vicente Ferrer de Otero y Cintrón (January 8, 1912 – January 26, 1992) was a Puerto Rican actor and director of stage, film and television.
