The Angelettes
The Angelettes were a British pop group who had one UK singles chart top 40 hit in 1972. History The group was made up of four school friends (Sue Hampson, Pat Fitzgerald, Jan Heywood, and Julie Abbott) from Droylesden, Manchester, who first practised together in 1968, and performed under various names until settling on White Spirit. After originally focussing on harmonies, by 1971 they had each adopted instruments and cut a demo disc which came to the attention of Jonathan King, who arranged for them to sign to Decca Records with him as producer, and he changed the group's name to The Angelettes. Their debut single, "Don't Let Him Touch You", was released in March 1972, when the girls were 16 and 17. By the end of May, the single had risen to number 35 in the UK singles chart, and earned the group a place on Top Of The Pops. "Do You Love Me" is a rhythm and blues song recorded by the Contours in 1962. Written and produced by Motown, Motown Records owner Berry Gordy Jr., it appeared twice on the Billboard Hot 100, ''Billboard'' Hot 100 chart, reaching numbers three in 1962 and eleven in 1988. As with many American R&B songs of the 1960s, "Do You Love Me" was recorded by several British Invasion groups. A 1963 version by The Tremeloes, Brian Poole and the Tremeloes reached number one on the UK Singles Chart. Ron Roker
Ronald Ernest Alfred Roker (born 23 January 1941) is an English songwriter, singer and record producer. Roker has written UK chart hits for Jackie Lee, The Fortunes, Barry Blue, Tina Charles, Polly Brown, The Pearls, The Real Thing and Sweet Dreams. Career Early 1970s Roker first worked as a song-plugger. His first taste of chart success was provided by the theme music to children's TV programme '' The Adventures of Rupert Bear''.
