The Alliance (band)
The Alliance is a group of dancehall deejays. Founded by Bounty Killer, the Alliance includes long-time collaborators like Angel Doolas and protégés like Elephant Man. Because of their high profile, some worried that the Alliance was established to "rule" the dancehall business by choosing which riddim to voice. These worries led to the war between Vybz Kartel and Ninja Man. History The Alliance was formed in 2003 by dancehall artist Bounty Killer and close friends as 'the heavyweights'. These included Busy Signal, Wayne Marshall, Mavado and Vybz Kartel. Vybz Kartel later left after a heated dispute. The Alliance then comprised the core members and multiple Jamaican dancehall artists. Dancehall is a genre of Jamaican popular music that originated in the late 1970s. Wayne Marshall (deejay)
Wayne Mitchell Order of Distinction, OD (born 9 April 1980), better known by his stage name Wayne Marshall, is a Jamaican reggae and dancehall Toasting (Jamaican music), DJ. He is most notable for his collaborations with Sean Paul, Elephant Man (musician), Elephant Man and Beenie Man. He also attended the Wolmer's Boys' School, Wolmer's Trust High School for Boys and married fellow reggae/dancehall artiste Tami Chynn in 2009. Marshall's debut solo album ''Marshall Law'' was released by VP Records is 2003. Reviewers noted strong Hip hop music, hip-hop influences in Marshall's dancehall music. Busy Signal (artist)
A busy signal (or busy tone or engaged tone) in telephony is an audible call-progress tone or audible signal to the calling party that indicates failure to complete the requested connection of that particular telephone call. The busy signal has become less common in the past few decades due to the prevalence of call waiting and voicemail. Ninjaman
Desmond John Ballentine (born 24 January 1966), better known as Ninjaman, and sometimes as Don Gorgon is a Jamaican dancehall deejay, known for his controversial, pro-gun lyrics, his stuttering and melodramatic style. In 2017, he received a life sentence for murder. Biography Born in Annotto Bay, Jamaica, Ballentine moved to Kingston at the age of 12. He launched his deejay career with the Black Culture Sound System at age 14 as "Double Ugly". In 1980, he joined the Killamanjaro sound system, where he got the chance to learn from established deejays Super Cat and Early B, and released his debut single as "Uglyman". Riddim
In Jamaican dancehall music, a riddim is the instrumental accompaniment to a song and is synonymous with the rhythm section. Jamaican music genres that use the term consist of the ''riddim'' plus the ''voicing'' (vocal part) sung by the deejay. A given riddim, if popular, may be used in dozens—or even hundreds—of songs, not only in recordings but also in live performances. Since the 1970s, riddims have accompanied reggae music and through the 1980s, more widely known as dancehall. As seen in dancehall music, there is a voicing part – sung by the DJ – over some riddim that has probably been widely used in many other songs. Elephant Man (musician)
O'Neil Bryan (born 11 September 1975), better known by his stage name Elephant Man, is a Jamaican dancehall musician, having formerly been a member of the dancehall group Scare Dem Crew prior to his solo career. Family and relationships Elephant Man is a father to at least 38 children. His first biological child was born when he was 17 years old. In a February 2012 interview with Winford Williams of OnStage, he claimed to have had 20 different baby mothers at the time. Deejay (Jamaican)
Toasting (rap in other parts of the Anglo Caribbean) or deejaying is the act of talking, usually in a monotone melody, over a rhythm or beat by a deejay. It can either be improvised or pre-written. Toasting developed in Jamaica, before it took up that name and being part of the sound system era, a similar sound of it is found in mento and now can be heard over musical styles including ska, reggae, dancehall, dub, grime, hip hop, soca and bouyon music. The combination of singing and toasting is known as singjaying. In the late 1950s in Jamaica, one of the first Selector, also being a promoter optimized of using a mic and to entertain an audience while playing records was Count Matchuki. Aidonia (born Sheldon Lawrence, 6 April 1981) is a Jamaican dancehall and reggae artist from Kingston, Jamaica. He became active in early 2004, and has released albums on the record labels, VP Records and Jag One Productions. Vybz Kartel
Adidja Azim Palmer (born 7 January 1976), better known as Vybz Kartel, is a Jamaican dancehall Toasting (Jamaican music), deejay. Among his various nicknames, he is referred to as Worl' Boss, Teacha and King of Dancehall. As summarized by ''Rolling Stone'', he "attained folk-hero status in Jamaica with provocative lyrics, and a mischievous public persona", and "few have captivated [the dancehall] audience – or offended the sensibilities of its detractors – as consistently and thoroughly as Kartel." Mavado (singer)
David Constantine Brooks (born 30 November 1981), better known by his stage name Mavado, is a Jamaican singer. Mavado signed with DJ Khaled's We the Best Music Group, a then-imprint of Cash Money and Republic Records in 2011. He guest performed on each of Khaled's studio albums, beginning with '' We the Best Forever'' (2011) until parting ways with the label prior to the release of his twelfth, ''Khaled Khaled'' (2021). His 2013 single, "Give It All to Me" (featuring Nicki Minaj) was released in promotion for his debut major label studio album, which remains unreleased.
