''The $5.98 E.P. – Garage Days Re-Revisited'' (released on CD as ''The $9.98 CD – Garage Days Re-Revisited'') is the first extended play by American heavy metal band Metallica, released on August 21, 1987, by Elektra Records. It consists of covers of late-'70s and early-'80s new wave of British heavy metal bands and punk rock music rehearsed in Lars Ulrich's soundproofed garage and then recorded in Los Angeles over the course of six days. It is the group's first release following the death of bassist Cliff Burton and the first to feature his successor, Jason Newsted. Development With Metallica scheduled to play the 1987 Monsters of Rock festival at Castle Donington, the band's UK label Vertigo Records suggested that they release new material to mark the occasion. Metallica
Metallica is an American heavy metal band. It was formed in Los Angeles in 1981 by vocalist and guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, and has been based in San Francisco for most of its career. Jason Newsted
Jason Curtis Newsted (born March 4, 1963) is an American musician, best known as the bassist of heavy metal band Metallica from 1986 to 2001. He performed with thrash metal band Flotsam and Jetsam for the first five years of his career before joining Metallica in October 1986 to succeed Cliff Burton, who died the month prior. Newsted performed on the albums '' ...And Justice for All'' (1988), ''Metallica'' (1991), '' Load'' (1996), '' Reload'' (1997) and '' Garage Inc.'' (1998). He left the group in January 2001. The Misfits are an American punk rock band often recognized as the pioneers of the horror punk subgenre, blending punk and other musical influences with horror film themes and imagery. "Last Caress" is a song by American punk rock band Misfits, first released on their 1980 EP '' Beware''. Written by vocalist Glenn Danzig, the song was later included on the compilation album '' Collection II'', released in 1995, as well as on the album ''Static Age'', which was recorded in 1978 but not released in its entirety until 1996. "Last Caress" is commonly considered to be one of the Misfits' greatest songs, and has been covered by a number of artists, including Metallica and NOFX. The Metallica version, a medley titled "Last Caress/ Green Hell", has achieved notoriety in its own right. Bow Wow (band)
Bow Wow are a Japanese rock band formed in 1975. Originally consisting of guitarist and vocalists Kyoji Yamamoto and Mitsuhiro Saito, bassist Kenji Sano and drummer Toshihiro Niimi, they were one of the first Japanese metal bands. After releasing nine studio albums, Saito left in 1983. The band then adopted a mainstream sound by recruiting lead vocalist Genki Hitomi and keyboardist Rei Atsumi and renamed themselves to Vow Wow in 1984. They released three studio albums, before relocating to England in 1986. Sano left the band the following year and Yamamoto and Niimii asked original Whitesnake bassist Neil Murray, to replace him. Post-punk (originally called new musick) is a broad genre of music that emerged in late 1977 in the wake of punk rock.
