Thanks (film)
''Thanks'' is a 2011 American comedy film directed by Martin Bergman and starring Paul Dooley and Rita Rudner. The film premiered at the 2011 Palm Springs International Film Festival. Premise ''Thanks'' is a Thanksgiving comedy that proves blood is thicker than gravy as a family deals with change over three Thanksgivings spent at the California beach. Three adult children respond to their father remarrying a much younger woman as America and the world respond to the tumultuous 2008 economic upheaval. Martin Bergman
Martin Bergman (born 17 June 1957) is a British producer, writer and director who works in Hollywood. He studied English at Emmanuel College, Cambridge from 1976, and was president of Cambridge Footlights during his time there. After leaving Cambridge University in 1979, Bergman produced several live arena shows with his Australian partner Michael Edgley, including the world tour of ice skaters Torvill and Dean. He also produced several comedy shows in Australia, Britain and the USA. Bergman married the American comedian Rita Rudner in 1988. They have written several films, plays and TV projects together. In January 2016, Rudner appeared in a new play ''Act 3...'' alongside Charles Shaughnessy at the Laguna Playhouse, directed by Martin. Bergman has also directed some of these projects, and Bergman's company has produced many of his wife's shows, most notably her Las Vegas residency which sold almost two million tickets over a multi-year run. Paul Dooley
Paul Dooley (born Paul Brown; February 22, 1928) is an American character actor, writer and comedian. He is known for his roles in '' Breaking Away'', '' Sixteen Candles'', and ''Popeye''. Early life Dooley was born Paul Brown on February 22, 1928, in Parkersburg, West Virginia, the son of Ruth Irene (née Barringer), a homemaker, and Pete James Brown, a factory worker. He has said that Parkersburg had few attractions that interested him, as there were not many cultural opportunities. He enjoyed listening to comedians on the radio, especially Jimmy Durante. Dooley was a cartoonist as a youth and drew a strip for a local paper in Parkersburg. Rita Rudner
Rita Rudner (born September 17, 1953) is an American comedian. Beginning her career as a Broadway dancer, Rudner noticed the lack of female comedians in New York City and turned to stand-up comedy, where she has flourished for over three decades. Her performance on a variety of HBO specials and numerous appearances on ''The Tonight Show with Johnny Carson'', helped establish Rudner as one of the premier comics to emerge from the comedy boom of the 1980s. Early life Rudner was born in Miami, Florida, the daughter of Frances, an Orthodox Jewish homemaker from Brooklyn, and Abe Rudner, a lawyer from the Catskills. Palm Springs International Film Festival (sometimes stylized shortly as PSIFF) is a film festival held in Palm Springs, California. Originally promoted by Mayor Sonny Bono and then sponsored by Nortel,here for Table of Contents it started in 1989 and is held annually in January. American comedy films are comedy films produced in the United States.
