Thanis Sriklindee
Thanis Sriklindee ( th, ธนิสร์ ศรีกลิ่นดี) or simply known as Ajaan Thanis (อาจารย์ธนิสร์, อ.ธนิสร์) is a Thai musician and former member of Carabao, a famous and popular Thai rock and Phleng phuea chiwit (เพลงเพื่อชีวิต; lit: songs for life) band. Biography and career Sriklindee was born in Tambon Hua Pa, Amphoe Phrom Buri, Singburi Province, on January 23, 1951 in a musician family. He grew up in the rural ambiance and was influenced by the folk music of central Thailand such as Luk thung (ลูกทุ่ง; Thai folk music), Lam Tad (ลำตัด), Choi (ฉ่อย) etc. He graduated from Pathumwan College of Education (currently Pathumwan Institute of Technology) and received a bachelor's degree in Musicology from Srinakharinwirot University. Aed Carabao ( th, แอ๊ด คาราบาว, ) is the stage name of Yuenyong Opakul ( th, ยืนยง โอภากุล; ), born 9 November 1954. He is a singer/songwriter and leader of the Thai rock band Carabao, known for its songs in the "songs for life" genre. Srinakharinwirot University (abbr: SWU; th, มหาวิทยาลัยศรีนครินทรวิโรฒ; abbr: มศว) is a public university in Bangkok, Thailand. Phleng phuea chiwit ( th, เพลงเพื่อชีวิต; IPA:; lit. "songs for life") describes a type of Thai folk music, strongly influenced by elements of Western folk and rock music with a protest theme mainly centred on the hardship of working-class people and in favor of a democratic political system. Thai rock is rock music from Thailand. Thai rock was influenced by rock bands from the United States and United Kingdom. Emerging in the 1980s it flourished with bands like Asanee-Wasan and Micro. It became widely popular in the 1990s. 1970s Rock music emerged from the United States from a Blues rock base, gaining international popularity in the 1960s with bands like The Doors and musician Jimi Hendrix. Carabao (band)
Carabao ( th, คาราบาว) is a Thai rock band that is very popular in Thailand and other Asian countries. The group was formed in 1981 by university students Yuenyong Opakul ( Aed) and Kirati Promsaka Na Sakon Nakhon (Keo or Khiao) who met while studying at Mapúa Institute of Technology in the Philippines. The word ''carabao'' means "buffalo", a symbol of fighting, hard work, and patience. They are known for their Phleng phuea chiwit (เพลงเพื่อชีวิต) or 'songs for life'. This kind of music came to prominence through the protest songs of the 1970s political upheaval in Thailand, especially from the band Caravan.
