Thamine Tadama-Groeneveld
Tamina Henriëtte Bartholda Jacoba Tadama-Groeneveld (1871-1938) was a Dutch painter. Biography Tadama-Groeneveld was born on 15 October 1871 in Utrecht, Netherlands. She studied at an art academy in Amsterdam and was also a student of George Hitchcock (artist), George Hitchcock. She was a member of Arti et Amicitiae. In 1895 she married fellow painter Fokko Tadama with whom she had two children. Tadama emigrated to the United States without Tadama-Groeneveld. Tadama-Groeneveld died on 3 April 1938 in Zandvoort. George Hitchcock (September 29, 1850 – August 2, 1913) was an American painter, born in Providence, Rhode Island, and was mostly active in Europe, notably in the Netherlands. Biography Hitchcock graduated from Brown University, and from Harvard Law School in 1874. Arti Et Amicitiae
Arti et Amicitiae (lat .: For Art and Friendship) is a Dutch artist's society founded in 1839, and located on the Rokin in Amsterdam. The Society (also called Arti for short) has played a key role in the Netherlands art scene and in particular in the Amsterdam art schools. It was and is to this day a hub for artists and art lovers in the city of Amsterdam. It is a private institution which supports artists, maintains social networks and offers a pension fund. In recent times it has been one of the venues for the 17th edition of the Sonic Acts Festival. Arti et Amicitiae is also the name of the building. The complex was merged from two separate buildings and given a white neo-classical facade by J. H. Leliman in 1855. Fokko Tadama
Fokko Tadama (16 May 1871 – 25 May 1937) was a Dutch painter in the style of the Hague School, known primarily for coastal scenes, who spent much of his career in the United States. He was also a teacher and focused primarily on Japanese immigrant students. Biography He was born in Banda Aceh, Indonesia. His father, Reinier Tadama (1844–1879), was a colonial administrator in Aceh and his mother was his father's mistress; a local woman. He was orphaned when his father died of tuberculosis while at a health spa in Germany. Having been taken to the Netherlands, he remained there and received his first artistic training from the landscape painter Sieger Jan Baukema (1852–1936). Later, he attended the Rijksakademie van beeldende kunsten in Amsterdam. In 1895 he married Thamine Tadama-Groeneveld, who was also a painter.
