Thalwil–Arth-Goldau Railway
The Thalwil–Arth-Goldau railway is a Swiss railway that acts as a feeder route to the Gotthard Railway (''Gotthardbahn'', GB). It was opened for this purpose on 1 June 1897, with the Thalwil railway station, Thalwil–Zug railway station, Zug section owned by the Swiss Northeastern Railway (''Schweizerische Nordostbahn'', NOB) and the Zug–Arth-Goldau railway station, Arth-Goldau section owned by the GB. Since the nationalisation of the GB in 1909, the entire route has belonged to the Swiss Federal Railways (''Schweizerische Bundesbahnen'', SBB). The route is still partially single-track and therefore highly-subject to delays. In addition there is a danger of natural hazards, especially on the Zug–Arth-Goldau section, which as a result often has to be closed for several days. Thalwil railway station () is a railway station in the municipality of Thalwil in the Swiss Canton of Zürich. The station is located on the Lake Zurich left bank (Zurich to Chur) main line and the Thalwil–Arth-Goldau railway, part of the Zurich to Lucerne line. To the Zurich side of the station, the Zimmerberg Base Tunnel diverges from the original lakeside line, whilst on the Lucerne side is the junction point where the Zurich to Chur and Zurich to Lucerne lines diverge. Thus all trains on both lines must pass through the station. The station is served on the lakeside line by an hourly long-distance RegioExpress service between Zürich and Chur. Zurich–Zug–Lucerne Railway
The Zurich–Zug–Lucerne Railway (Zürich-Zug-Luzern-Bahn) is a former railway company that built railway lines in the Swiss cantons of Zurich, Zug and Lucerne from the 1860s. SBB-CFF-FFS Ae 4/7
The Ae 4/7 was a universal locomotive of the Swiss Federal Railways, employing the so-called Buchli drive. Because of this drive construction, invented by Jakob Buchli, it was one of the longest-lasting Swiss locomotives. It was in regular use for 70 years, from the 1920s into the 1990s, hauling freight and passenger trains all over Switzerland. History In the 1920s stronger locomotives were needed for the Swiss plateau (which has grades up to 12‰). The existing locomotives with three driven axles were a bit weak for their services. Sihlwald is a railway station in the Sihl Valley, in the municipality of Horgen, Canton of Zurich, Switzerland. The station is on the Sihltal line, which is operated by the Sihltal Zürich Uetliberg Bahn (SZU). The station takes its name from the Sihlwald forest and nature reserve, whose visitor centre is adjacent to the station. Sihlwald was the original terminus of the Sihtal line, which was opened from Bahnhof Selnau in Zurich in 1892. The Sihltal railway line () is a railway line in the Swiss canton of Zürich, which connects the city of Zürich with the communities of the Sihl Valley. The Lake Zurich left bank railway line (), is a railway line in Switzerland. It serves the left (or west) bank of Lake Zurich, connecting Zurich to Ziegelbrücke and Näfels. The left-bank railway opened in 1875 and forms part of the Zurich–Chur main line. It is long, standard gauge, double track and electrified at supplied by overhead line.
