Thai Sky TV
Thai Sky TV () was a satellite television operator that existed in Thailand between 1991 and 1997, owned by Siam Broadcasting Company Limited, a unit of MCOT. History Siam Broadcasting Company was registered in June 1990. Thai Sky TV launched test signals on 26 August 1991. These became regular in September 1991. TSTV used MMDS to deliver its signals, similar to IBC, its competitor. Under this system, TSTV carried three channels. At the time, the installation fee for TSTV was higher than that of IBC: TSTV charged 1000 baht per subscription, IBC charged only 600. On 27 December 1993, the government approved the expansion of TSTV and UBC services outside of Bangkok. Both companies were facing competition from Star TV. MCOT Public Company Limited (MCOT; ), formerly known as the Mass Communication Organization of Thailand, is a Thai state-owned public broadcaster. It owns and operates a number of radio and television stations in Thailand. It is based in Bangkok. At present, MCOT runs seven national, one international, 52 provincial, one district radio station, two television channels (terrestrial free-to-air; until 2020), and 2 satellite television channels. Multichannel multipoint distribution service (MMDS), formerly known as broadband radio service (BRS) and also known as wireless cable, is a wireless telecommunications technology, used for general-purpose broadband networking or, more commonly, as an alternative method of cable television programming reception. Thaicom Public Company Limited is a Thai satellite operator and provider of satellite and telecommunication services since 1991. The company operates a fleet of four satellites covering Asia, Oceania, and Africa.
