Thai Aviation Industries (TAI) (Thai ไทย: บริษัท อุตสาหกรรมการบินไทย) is Thailand's aircraft repair and maintenance service center. The Thai government approved the establishment of TAI on 23 September 2003, by the Royal Thai Air Force. TAI's headquarters is at Don Muang. TAI started its operation on 29 January 2004. History TAI was established in 2003 in anticipation of the increasing opportunity in aviation maintenance service, driven by the surge of aviation activities resulting from the government's policy to make Thailand the aviation hub of the Asia Pacific region. Thailand had no aviation maintenance center before the company was established. Royal Thai Air Force
The Royal Thai Air Force (RTAF) (; ) is the air force of the Kingdom of Thailand. Since its establishment in 1913 as one of the earliest air forces of Asia, the Royal Thai Air Force has engaged in numerous major and minor conflicts. During the Vietnam War era, the RTAF was supplied with United States Air Force, USAF-aid equipment. History Belgian pilot Charles Van Den Born performed a flying demonstration over Bangkok in January 1911, greatly impressing Prince Chakrabongse Bhuvanath, brother of King Vajiravudh, and he even accepted an invitation for a flight. Don Muang
Don Mueang (, , ; ; ) is one of the 50 districts (''khet'') of Bangkok, Thailand. It is bounded by (from north clockwise): Mueang Pathum Thani and Lam Luk Ka of Pathum Thani province; Sai Mai, Bang Khen and Lak Si of Bangkok; and Pak Kret of Nonthaburi province. Don Mueang regarded as the uppermost part of Bangkok. History Don Mueang was once part of Bang Khen, but it became a district in its own right in 1989. Later in 1997, the southern part of Don Mueang was split off to establish a new district, Lak Si. Don Mueang was originally called "Don I Yiao" ('the upland of hawks'), because of the upland terrain. The RTAF-5, officially designated B.ThO.5 (), is a Thai training and forward air control aircraft developed and built by the Science and Weapon Systems Development Centre of the Royal Thai Air Force in the 1980s. It was a twin-boom configuration aircraft powered by a single pusher turboprop engine, but only a single example was built.
