Landtag Of Thuringia
The Landtag of Thuringia is the parliament of the German federal state of Thuringia. It convenes in Erfurt and currently consists of 88 members from five parties. According to the free state's constitution, the primary functions of the Landtag are to pass laws, elect the Minister-President and control the government of Thuringia. Elections Elections are held every five years using the German Mixed-member proportional representation (MMP) system, with an election threshold of 5% vote share to receive any seats. All German citizens 18 years of age or older living in Thuringia are entitled to vote. If a party wins more constituency seats than its overall share of the vote, the overall size of the Landtag increases because of these overhang and leveling mandates. Birgit Pommer
Birgit Pommer (née Ehrhardt, previously Keller, born 28 January 1959) is a German politician of The Left who has served as President of the Landtag of Thuringia from 2019 to 2024. She is the first member of her party to serve as speaker of any state parliament. Prior, she served as Minister for Infrastructure and Agriculture in the first Ramelow cabinet. Personal life Pommer's father was an economist and her mother a teacher. Both were members of the National Democratic Party in East Germany. She graduated from polytechnic high school in 1975, but was unable to take her Abitur since she came from an "intelligentsia" family. After vocational training as an electrician, she worked as a research assistant in the field of heavy current plant engineering from 1977 to 1982. Eichsfeld I is an electoral constituency (German: ''Wahlkreis'') represented in the Landtag of Thuringia. It elects one member via first-past-the-post voting. Under the current constituency numbering system, it is designated as constituency 1. It comprises the western part of the district of Eichsfeld, including its capital Heilbad Heiligenstadt. Eichsfeld I was created for the 1994 state election, replacing constituency ''Heiligenstadt – Worbis II'', which covered much of the same area. Heilbad Heiligenstadt () is a spa town in Thuringia, Germany. It is the capital of the Eichsfeld (district), Eichsfeld Districts of Germany, district. Geography Heiligenstadt is approximately 14 km east of the tripoint where the states of Thuringia, Hesse and Lower Saxony meet. 2019 Thuringian State Election
The 2019 Thuringian state election was held on 27 October 2019 to elect the members of the 7th Landtag of Thuringia. The outgoing government was a coalition consisting of The Left, the Social Democratic Party (SPD), and The Greens, led by Minister-President Bodo Ramelow. The Left became the largest party for the first time in any German state with a small improvement to 31% of votes.
