Th. Sørensen Land
Th. Sørensen Land is an area in King Christian X Land, Eastern Greenland, part of the inner Scoresby Sound system. Administratively it lies in the Northeast Greenland National Park zone. The area is remote and uninhabited. Th. Sørensen Land was named during the 1971 Northern Universities expedition after Danish botanist Thorvald Sørensen (1902–1973) who published the botanical research of the Three-year Expedition to East Greenland. Geography Th. Sørensen Land is a mountainous region. It is bound to the north by Flyver Fjord, a branch of Nordvestfjord, beyond which lies Hinksland. To the southeast it is separated from Renland by the Edvard Bay Valley. Its easternmost point is a headland jutting out into the right bank of the Nordvestfjord. Renland
Renland is a peninsula in eastern Greenland. It is a part of the Sermersooq municipality. Despite its proximity to the coast Renland has an ice cap climate with bitterly cold winters and very low maximum temperatures in the summer. Greenland Ice Sheet
The Greenland ice sheet is an ice sheet which forms the second largest body of ice in the world. It is an average of thick and over thick at its maximum. It is almost long in a north–south direction, with a maximum width of at a latitude of 77th parallel north, 77°N, near its northern edge. The ice sheet covers , around 80% of the surface of Greenland, or about 12% of the area of the Antarctic ice sheet. The term 'Greenland ice sheet' is often shortened to GIS or GrIS in scientific literature. Greenland has had major glaciers and ice caps for at least 18 million years, but a single ice sheet first covered most of the island some 2.6 million years ago. Freuchen Glacier
Lorenz Peter Elfred Freuchen (20 February 1886 – 2 September 1957) was a Danish explorer, author, journalist and anthropologist. He is notable for his role in Arctic exploration, namely the Thule Expeditions. Early life, family and education Freuchen was born in Nykøbing Falster, Denmark, the son of Anne Petrine Frederikke (née Rasmussen; 1862–1945) and Lorentz Benzon Freuchen (1859–1927), a businessman. Freuchen was baptized in the local church. He attended the University of Copenhagen where for a time he studied medicine. Career In 1906, he went on his first expedition to Greenland as a member of the Denmark expedition. Between 1910 and 1924, he undertook several expeditions, often with the noted Polar explorer Knud Rasmussen. He worked with Rasmussen in crossing the Greenland ice sheet. Nathorst Land is an area in King Christian X Land, Eastern Greenland. It lies in the Northeast Greenland National Park zone. The area is remote and uninhabited. Nathorst Land was named after Swedish Arctic explorer Alfred Gabriel Nathorst (1850–1921) by Lauge Koch during aerial surveys in 1932 which were part of the Three-year Expedition to East Greenland. Geography Nathorst Land is a mountainous region bounded by the F. Graae Glacier and the inner Nordvestfjord to the south, and to the north by Tærskeldal and Forsblad Fjord, beyond which lies Lyell Land. Hinksland
Hinksland () is a peninsula in eastern Greenland. It is a part of the Northeast Greenland National Park. The peninsula is named after Arthur R. Hinks, Secretary of the Royal Geographical Society, 1915–45. Geography Hinksland is limited to the northwest by the Daugaard-Jensen Glacier, beyond which lies Charcot Land, to the northeast by the Nordvestfjord of the Scoresby Sound and to the south by the Flyver Fjord.
