Texas Bowl
The Texas Bowl is an annual postseason NCAA-sanctioned Division I FBS college football bowl game first held in 2006 in Houston, Texas. Each edition of the bowl has been played at NRG Stadium, previously known as Reliant Stadium. The bowl replaced the defunct Houston Bowl, which was played annually from 2000 to 2005, and before that the Bluebonnet Bowl, the first bowl game in Houston, played from 1959 through 1987. NRG Stadium
NRG Stadium (previously known as Reliant Stadium) is a multi-purpose stadium in Houston, Texas, United States. Construction was completed in 2002, at a cost of $352 million and has a seating capacity of 72,220. It was the first NFL facility to have a retractable roof. The stadium is the home of the National Football League's Houston Texans, the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the Texas Bowl, many of the United States men's national soccer team's matches, Mexico national football team friendlies where ''El Tri'' serves as the host, and other events. The team's head coach was Ron Prince, in his first year at K-State after leaving his offensive coordinator position at University of Virginia, Virginia. The 2006 Rutgers Scarlet Knights football team was an American football team that represented Rutgers University as a member of the Big East Conference during the 2006 NCAA Division I FBS football season. In their sixth season under head coach Greg Schiano, the Scarlet Knights compiled an 11–2 record (5–2 in conference games), tied for second place in the Big East, and outscored opponents by a total of 387 to 186. Bluebonnet Bowl
The Bluebonnet Bowl was an annual college football bowl game played in Houston, Texas. A civic group was appointed by the Houston Chamber of Commerce Athletics Committee in 1959 to organize the bowl game. It was held at Rice Stadium (Rice University), Rice Stadium from 1959 through 1967, and again in 1985 and 1986. The game was played in the Reliant Astrodome, Astrodome from 1968 through 1984, as well in 1987. When held in the Astrodome, it was called the Astro-Bluebonnet Bowl. The proceeds from the bowl games were distributed to various Harris County, Texas, Harris County charitable organizations. The game was discontinued following the 1987 season due to poor ticket sales and lack of a title sponsor.
