Tex Blaisdell
Philip Eustice Blaisdell (March 30, 1920 – March 14, 1999), better known as Tex Blaisdell, was an American comic-strip artist and comic-book editor. He worked on 22 syndicated features, including ''Little Orphan Annie'', which he drew for five years. Biography Born in Houston, Texas, Blaisdell studied at New York's Art Students League of New York, Art Students League. Comic strips After four years in the Air Force, Blaisdell worked for 13 years on strips by Al Capp, Stan Drake, Will Eisner, Irwin Hasen, John Cullen Murphy, Bud Sagendorf, Dick Wingert, and others. In the early 1960s, he helped Hal Foster on ''Prince Valiant'', originally doing backgrounds, but eventually his contribution escalated to finishing everything but the faces while his assistant Lee Marrs inked the backgrounds. Leonard Starr
Leonard Starr (October 28, 1925 – June 30, 2015) was an American cartoonist, comic book artist, and advertising artist, best known for creating the newspaper comic strip ''Mary Perkins, On Stage, On Stage'' and reviving ''Little Orphan Annie''. Early life Born in 1925 in New York City Starr graduated from Manhattan's The High School of Music and Art, High School of Music and Art and then studied at Pratt Institute. Career While attending Pratt during between 1942 and 1943, Starr worked for the Harry "A" Chesler and the Funnies, Inc. studios, contributing to the early comic-book features produced at these studios. For Funnies, he began as a background artist, eventually inking Bob Oksner's pencils. He graduated to drawing for early Timely Comics, Timely/Marvel Comics titles, including the Human Torch and the Namor, Sub-Mariner. National Cartoonists Society
The National Cartoonists Society (NCS) is an organization of professional cartoonists in the United States. It presents the National Cartoonists Society Awards. The Society was born in 1946 when groups of cartoonists got together to entertain the troops. They enjoyed each other's company and decided to meet on a regular basis. NCS members work in many branches of the profession, including advertising, animation, newspaper comic strips and syndicated single-panel cartoons, comic books, editorial cartoons, gag cartoons, graphic novels, greeting cards, magazine and book illustration. Only recently has the National Cartoonists Society embraced web comics.
