Test Tube Babies (film)
''Test Tube Babies'', also known as ''Blessed Are They'' (American reissue title), ''Sins of Love'' (American reissue title) and ''The Pill'' (America reissue title, recut version), is a 1948 American independent exploitation film directed by W. Merle Connell and produced by George Weiss. It is a narrative about artificial insemination with scenes of nudity and sexual promiscuity included. One scene shows the male lead character's sperm viewed through a microscope. Plot A young married couple find themselves drifting apart. Wife Cathy Bennet (Dorothy Duke) finds temporary pleasure at swinging parties or in the arms of another man, Frank Grover (John Michael). Husband George Bennet (William Thomason) confronts his wife about the widening chasm between them; she tells him she feels they are somehow incomplete without children. George Weiss (producer)
George G. Weiss is an American film producer who specialized in independent 'road show' exploitation Z movies during the 1950s and sexploitation shockers in the 1960s that openly defied the motion picture production code of the day. ''Glen or Glenda'' Weiss is best known as the producer who funded the exploitation film '' Glen or Glenda'' (1953) directed by Ed Wood, originally conceived as a fictionalized story of the sexual reassignment surgery of Christine Jorgensen. When Jorgensen refused to collaborate on the film, Wood wrote a new autobiographical script about his own struggle with being a closet transvestite and added stock film footage about sexual reassignment surgery. Weiss appears in the film in an uncredited cameo as "man at transvestite's suicide." Adding to the film's already extensive fantasy sequence, Weiss included incongruous scenes of scantily clad women, bondage, and whipping taken from another project inspired by the fetish films of Irving Klaw. Margaret Roach
Margaret Mae Roach (March 15, 1921 – November 22, 1964) was an American actress active in the 1930s and 1940s. Biography She was born on March 15, 1921, in Los Angeles, California, the daughter of Hal Roach and Marguerite Nichols, and her brother was Hal Roach Jr. Roach gained early acting experience with a stock theater company headed by Ben Bard. She also sang in a night club and worked for two years as an extra in films for two years before she obtained bigger roles. Roach was married to the actor Robert Livingston, from 1947 to 1951, and they had one son, actor and writer Addison Randall (b. 1949). Roach died November 1964 in Washoe County, Nevada from cirrhosis of the liver caused by chronic alcoholism. She was buried in Calvary Cemetery, East Los Angeles, California.Wilson, Scott.
