Terry Ledgerton
Terence Ledgerton (7 October 1930 – December 2004) was an English footballer who played in the Football League for Brentford and Millwall as an outside left. Playing career Brentford Ledgerton began his career as a youth in his native Liverpool with spells at St. Dominic's and Huyton. He also represented a Liverpool FA Youth XI. Ledgerton moved on to join the youth team at Second Division club Brentford as an amateur in 1949. He made his debut in a 0–0 draw with West London rivals Queens Park Rangers on 9 February 1952. He established himself as a first team regular during the 1952–53 season and made 31 appearances. Ledgerton's appearances tailed off during the 1953–54 season and he departed the club in May 1954. Millwall Ledgerton joined Third Division South club Millwall in May 1954, in an exchange deal for George Stobbart. Non-League football describes association football, football leagues played outside the top leagues of a country. Usually, it describes leagues which are not fully professional. The term is primarily used for football in England, where it is specifically used to describe all football played at levels below those of the Premier League (20 clubs) and the three divisions of the English Football League (EFL; 72 clubs). 1959–60 Southern Football League
The 1959–60 Southern Football League season was the 57th in the history of the league, an English football competition. The league split into a Premier Division and Division One, the first time the league had had two hierarchical divisions since 1919–20. Bath City won the championship, whilst Clacton Town, Romford, Folkestone Town and Guildford City were all promoted to the Premier Division. Eleven Southern League clubs applied to join the Football League at the end of the season, but none were successful. Premier Division Premier Division was formed at the end of the previous season, with eleven top clubs from both North-West and South-East divisions joined. At the end of the season Headington United was renamed Oxford United. 1958–59 Southern Football League
The 1958–59 Southern Football League season was the 56th in the history of the league, an English Association football, football competition. It was the first season since 1936 the league split into two divisions following the election of thirteen new clubs at the end of the 1957–58 Southern Football League, previous season. Hereford United F.C., Hereford United won the North-West Division, whilst Bedford Town F.C., Bedford Town won the South-East Division. Bedford were declared Southern League champions after defeating Hereford 2–1 in a championship play-off at Edgar Street on 9 May. Nine clubs applied to join the Football League, although none were successful. The plan for the 1959–60 Southern Football League, following season was to have a Premier Division of 22 clubs and a Division One below it. English Football League System
The English football league system, also known as the football pyramid, is a series of interconnected leagues for men's association football clubs in England, with five teams from Wales, one from Guernsey, one from Jersey and one from the Isle of Man also competing. The system has a hierarchical format with promotion and relegation between leagues at different levels, allowing even the smallest club the theoretical possibility of ultimately rising to the very top of the system, the Premier League. Below that are levels 2–4 organised by the English Football League, then the National League System from levels 5–10 administered by the FA, and thereafter Regional feeder leagues run by relevant county FAs on an ''ad hoc'' basis.
