Terry Kitchen
Terry Kitchen (born Max Pokrivchak in Phillipsburg, New Jersey) is an American folk singer-songwriter. He grew up in Bethlehem and Easton, Pennsylvania and Findlay, Ohio and attended college at Occidental College and the Guitar Institute of Technology. After college, he moved to Boston and fronted the 1980s pop/rock band Loose Ties before moving on to a solo career in acoustic music. He has performed in New England coffeehouses and folk festivals, as well as nationally, ever since. He derived his stage name from a character in Kurt Vonnegut, Jr.'s 1988 novel, ''Bluebeard''. Vonnegut's Terry Kitchen was a talented member of the Abstract Expressionist movement. Phillipsburg, New Jersey
Phillipsburg is a town located along the Delaware River in Warren County, in the U.S. state of New Jersey. It is located across the river directly east from Easton, Pennsylvania. Phillipsburg is the most populous municipality in Warren County with a population of 15,249 as of the 2020 census. The Norfolk Southern Railway's Lehigh Line, formerly the mainline of the Lehigh Valley Railroad with a mix of mainline trackage combined long leased to the Central Railroad of New Jersey by its builder Lehigh Coal & Navigation Company, runs through Phillipsburg on its way cross river to Easton, Pennsylvania. 1949 Sun Bowl Controversy
The 1949 Sun Bowl controversy refers to the student protests at Lafayette College in Easton, Pennsylvania, after a Sun Bowl invitation was extended to the Lafayette Leopards football team under the condition that the African American player, David Showell, would not play. On November 19, 1948, Lafayette College was invited by the Sun Bowl Committee to play against the Texas College of Mines, now the University of Texas at El Paso. Just four days later, on November 23, the Lafayette faculty voted to turn down the bid because the Sun Bowl Committee would not allow Showell to play. This bid rejection led to a large student demonstration on the Lafayette campus and in the city of Easton against segregation.
