Terry Katzman
Terry James Katzman (March 8, 1955 – November 8, 2019) was a producer, sound engineer, archivist, and record-store owner in Minneapolis, Minnesota, known for his work with the Twin Cities music scene, particularly during the formative early years of Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, and The Suburbs. Early life Katzman grew up in Excelsior, Minnesota and attended Minnetonka High School, then St. Cloud State University and the University of Minnesota. Career Katzman was a mainstay of the early punk rock scene in Minneapolis beginning in the late 1970s. Hüsker Dü guitarist Bob Mould recalls Katzman working backstage when Mould attended his first concert in Minneapolis, a Suicide Commandos performance at Jay's Longhorn Bar in 1978. ''Everything Falls Apart'' is the debut studio album by Hüsker Dü released in January 1983 by Reflex Records. Critical reception In a 1983 ''Trouser Press'' review, Jon Young said, "Yeah! Hyperspeed agression!...Buzzsaw guitars! Shouting! A disrespectful version of "Sunshine Superman"!...Not Bad!" Reissue The album was released on compact disc in 1993 as ''Everything Falls Apart and More'', with bonus tracks including the band's first two singles, the full version of "Statues" lasting over eight minutes, and an unreleased track recorded in a St. Paul, Minnesota, basement called "Do You Remember?" (the English translation of "husker du" from both Danish and Norwegian). The Lemonheads
The Lemonheads are an American alternative rock band formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in 1986 by Evan Dando, Ben Deily, and Jesse Peretz. Dando has remained the band's only constant member. After their initial punk-influenced releases and tours as an independent/ college rock band in the late 1980s, the Lemonheads' popularity with a mass audience grew in 1992 with the major label album '' It's a Shame about Ray'', which was produced, engineered, and mixed by The Robb Brothers ( Bruce Robb, Dee, and Joe). This was followed by a cover of Simon and Garfunkel's " Mrs. Robinson", which eventually became one of the band's most successful singles. ''Lick'' is the third album by The Lemonheads and the last to feature founding member Ben Deily. It was released in 1989 and was the group's last album before signing to major label Atlantic. A typo on the album itself erroneously states its release date as 1988. As with their first two albums, it was re-released as a CD in 1992, with two bonus tracks. Album information As would become something of a trademark, the Lemonheads' lineup featured some significant differences on ''Lick'' from both previous and later albums. Although the band had officially broken up after recording their second album, '' Creator'', in 1988, they were offered a chance to play a European tour, so in early '89 the band reformed with Evan Dando on drums, Corey Loog Brennan and Ben Deily on guitars, and Jesse Peretz on bass. Oar Folkjokeopus (commonly known as Oar Folk) was a Minneapolis record store that operated on the corner of Lyndale Ave and 26th St from 1973 until 2001. The store was considered one of the staples of the Minneapolis rock scene in the 1980s, along with Jay's Longhorn Bar, and became a popular hub for musicians in the Twin Cities and the Midwest. The store was essentially the only place in Minneapolis that sold punk rock records in the 1970s and early 1980s, which made it a popular hangout for members of local bands such as Hüsker Dü, The Replacements, the Suicide Commandos, Soul Asylum and many more. Bob Mould of Hüsker Dü called it the city's "preeminent record store" and an important venue for him to find a fellow music-loving community. ''Stink'' is an EP by the band The Replacements, recorded at Blackberry Way, Minneapolis, Minnesota, on March 13, 1982, and released on June 24, 1982. Before the first track, "Kids Don't Follow", audio can be heard of the Minneapolis police breaking up a rent party at The Harmony Building in Minneapolis. It is possible by listening carefully to hear one of the audience members curse the police. The audience member in question is believed to be Dave Pirner of Soul Asylum. The EP was remastered and reissued by Rhino Entertainment on April 22, 2008, with four additional tracks and liner notes by Peter Jesperson.
