Terry Erwin
Terry Lee Erwin (December 1, 1940 – May 11, 2020) was an American entomologist with the Smithsonian Institution. Erwin went to Vallejo High School and then graduated in biology in 1964, followed by a masters in 1966 from San Jose State College (now San Jose State University). He went to the University of Alberta to study carabid beetles under George Ball, obtaining a Ph.D. in 1969 followed by a post-doctoral stint at Harvard under P. Jackson Darlington, Jr. He took up an entomologist position in the United States National Museum (later the Smithsonian Institution) but took a year off to study carabid beetles at the University of Lund under Carl H. Lindroth. On return in 1971, Erwin was deputed to examine the beetles of Panama. By fogging the forest canopy with pesticide, he collected the falling specimens and found 1,200 species of beetles living in '' Luehea seemannii'' trees. Terri Irwin
Terri Raines Irwin (née Raines, born July 20, 1964) is an American-Australian conservationist, television personality, author and zookeeper who is the owner of Australia Zoo in Beerwah, Queensland. She is the widow of Steve Irwin. Born in Oregon, she began working for an independent animal rehabilitation center for injured predator mammals at the age of 22 while working for her family's trucking business. She met her future husband Steve while touring wildlife rehabilitation facilities in Australia in 1991. The two married in 1992, and went on to co-star in ''The Crocodile Hunter'', their unconventional television nature documentary series and its Spin-off (media), spin-off series, ''Croc Files'', ''The Crocodile Hunter Diaries'', and ''Crikey! The Society of Systematic Biologists (SSB) started as the Society of Systematic Zoology in 1947. A temporary constitution was adopted at the first meeting on 28 December 1947. The updated "biologists" organization (from "zoology") became incorporated on August 9, 1971. Overview The Society of Systematic Biologists is a non-profit organization for the advancement of the science of systematic biology. Members of the organization work on the theory, principles, methodology, and practice of systematics involving living and fossil organisms. The organization is involved in projects aimed at the study and classification of biodiversity, such as the Systematics Agenda 2000.
