Terry Davis (politician)
Terence Anthony Gordon Davis (5 January 1938 – 9 December 2024) was a British Labour Party politician and businessman. He was the Member of Parliament (MP) for Bromsgrove from 1971 to 1974, and for Birmingham Stechford and its successor seat, Birmingham Hodge Hill, from 1979 to 2004. He was then Secretary General of the Council of Europe from 2004 to 2009. Early life Davis was born in Stourbridge on 5 January 1938. He went to the King Edward VI Grammar School (now the King Edward VI College) in Stourbridge. Davis was a graduate of University College London, where he gained an LLB degree in 1962, and University of Michigan's Ross School of Business, where he gained an MBA degree in 1962. He was a company executive from 1962 to 1971 for Esso, Clarks shoes and Chrysler Parts. From 1974 to 1979, he was a manager in the motor industry, with Leyland Cars. Terry Davis (born 1946) is an American novelist. He was born in, and lived near Spokane, Washington for many years, and is a professor emeritus of English at Minnesota State University, Mankato (MSU Mankato), where he taught creative writing – fiction and screenwriting – as well as adolescent literature. Davis, who has been a high school English teacher and a wrestling coach, is the author of three novels for young adults: ''Vision Quest'' (1979), ''Mysterious Ways'' (1984), and '' If Rock & Roll Were a Machine'' (1992). He has also written ''Presenting Chris Crutcher'', a biography of the respected young-adult author. John Irving called ''Vision Quest'' "the truest novel about growing up since ''Catcher in the Rye''," and said, "it's a better novel about wrestling, and wrestlers, than ''The World According to Garp''." Terry Acebo Davis (born 1953) is a Filipino American artist and nurse based in the San Francisco Bay Area. Her art is thematically linked to her family and her origins as a Filipino American. Early life and education Born in Oakland, California, the oldest of six children, Acebo Davis gained a Bachelor of Science in nursing from California State University, Hayward in 1976, followed by graduate coursework in Pediatric Oncology at the University of California, San Francisco. Terry Davis (born 1958) is an Australian businessman and former state representative rower. From 2001 to 2014 he was chief executive of Coca-Cola Amatil in Australia. Club and state rowing career Raised in Hobart Tasmania, Davis attended Rosetta High School where he took up rowing. His senior rowing was initially from the Buckingham Rowing Club outside of Hobart before his relocation to Sydney. Davis made his state representative debut for Tasmania in the 1975 youth eight which contested the Noel Wilkinson Trophy at the 1975 Australian Interstate Regatta. The following year he was selected in the Tasmanian men's eight which competed for the King's Cup at the annual Interstate Regatta. In 1977 he again rowed in the Tasmanian King's Cup eight. Terence B. Davis II (born May 16, 1997) is an American professional basketball player for the Sacramento Kings of the National Basketball Association (NBA). He played college basketball for the Ole Miss Rebels. After going undrafted in the 2019 NBA draft, he signed with the Toronto Raptors and was named to the NBA All-Rookie Second Team in 2020.
