The Terre Haute Ordnance Depot was a World War II-era U.S. supply depot located in Terre Haute, Indiana. History Construction on the Terre Haute Ordnance Depot began on June 4, 1942. It was one of two ordnance depots activated in Vigo County, Indiana that year. The depot was completed on December 4, 1942 at a cost of $5.6 million. Terre Haute ( ) is a city in and the county seat of Vigo County, Indiana, United States, about 5 miles east of the state's western border with Illinois. Vigo County ( ) is a county on the western border of the U.S. state of Indiana. According to the 2020 United States Census, it had a population of 105,994 . Its county seat is Terre Haute. Vigo County is included in the Terre Haute metropolitan area. The Vigo Ordnance Plant, also known as the Vigo Chemical Plant or simply Vigo Plant, was a United States Army The United States Army (USA) is the land warfare, land military branch, service branch of the United States Armed Forces.
