Teresa Casuso Morín
Lorenza Teresa Inocencia Casuso y Morín (better known as "Teté" Casuso; Madruga, Cuba 10 August 1912 – Miami, USA 28 July 1994) was a prominent Cuban intellectual, who fought for democracy and freedom in Cuba. As a writer, she worked in various genres, including novel, theater, chronicle, poetry, as well as radio and cinematographic libretos. Her journalistic work appeared in several publications in Cuba, Mexico and the US. She also worked as a translator and drama teacher; and was an actress of stage and screen. Along with several other middle-class, educated women writer contemporaries - Emilia Bernal, Lydia Cabrera, Ana Maria Simo, Hilda Perera Soto, and Rita Geada - Casuso left Cuba after the 1959 Revolution. Madruga
Madruga () is a municipality and town in the Mayabeque Province of Cuba. It is located in the eastern part of the province, between Matanzas and Güines. It was founded in 1803. Geography In 1940, the municipality was divided into the barrios of Concordia and Cayajabos, Este, Itabo, Majagua, Oeste, Sabana de Robles and San Blas. After 1973, the municipality includes Madruga; Aguacate; Viviendas Campesinas; La Granja; Cayajabos Pipián and Flor de Itabo. The Cuban dissident movement is a political movement in Cuba whose aim is to replace the current government with a liberal democracy. According to Human Rights Watch, the Marxist-Leninist Cuban government represses nearly all forms of political dissent. Some dissident groups in the Cuban diaspora received both funding and assistance from the U.S. Intelligence Community during the Cold War, which has caused the Communist Party of Cuba to allege that all dissidents are part of a United States strategy to covertly destabilize the Party's control over the country.
