Teofimo Lopez
Teófimo Andrés López Rivera (born July 30, 1997) is an American professional boxer. He has held multiple world championships in two weight classes, including the World Boxing Organization (WBO) and '' The Ring'' junior welterweight titles since 2023; previously he held the unified lightweight championship, as well as the ''Ring'' title, between 2019 and 2021. As an amateur, Lopez represented Honduras at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Early life Lopez was born to Honduran immigrants on July 30, 1997, in Brooklyn, New York. His paternal grandfather, a Spaniard from Ávila who was born in 1916, emigrated shortly after the Second World War, going to Brazil first before settling in Honduras. His father, Teofimo Lopez Sr. left Honduras with his mother at age 5, settling in Brooklyn. The family eventually relocated to Florida, where Lopez Sr. first started training his son at the age of 6. The International Boxing Federation (IBF) is one of four major organizations recognized by the International Boxing Hall of Fame (IBHOF) which sanctions professional boxing bouts. The others are the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). The International Boxing Association (IBA), previously known as the Association Internationale de Boxe Amateur (AIBA), is a sports organization that sanctions amateur and professional boxing matches and awards world and subordinate championships. Carlos Zenon Balderas Jr. (born August 24, 1996) is an American boxer who competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics. Personal life Balderas was born on June 24, 1996, in Lompoc, California. He was the first member of his family to be born in the United States; his grandfather first came to California, leaving his wife and children behind in Oaxaca, Mexico, to work in strawberry fields, eventually earning the money to move the rest of the family to the United States. Whilst growing up in Santa Maria, California, Balderas was first taken to a boxing gym as a punishment for fighting in the streets with his friends and getting suspended from school.
