Teno (Mataquito)
The Teno () is a river located in the Maule Region of central Chile. It begins at the confluence of the ''Malo River (Teno), Malo'' and ''Nacimiento River (Teno), Nacimiento'' rivers. The former originates north of Planchón volcano at Lagunas de Teno. The river flows initially northwest across the Andes. At the locality of ''Los Queñes'', the Teno is joined by the ''Claro River (Teno), Claro River'', which is fed by glaciers of Planchón-Peteroa complex. Shortly after being crossed by the Pan-American Highway and by Chile's main railroad, the Teno River turns its course southwestward until it meets the Lontué River, about 10 kilometers west of Curicó near the locality of Sagrada Familia, Chile, Sagrada Familia, forming the Mataquito River. Maule Region
The Maule Region (, ) is one of Chile's 16 first order administrative divisions. Its capital is Talca. The region derives its name from the Maule River which, running westward from the Andes, bisects the region and spans a basin of about 20,600 km2. The Maule river is of considerable historic interest because, among other reasons, it marked the southern limits of the Inca Empire. Geography and ecology The region covers an area of and is bordered on the west by the Pacific Ocean; on the east by the Argentina; on the north by the O'Higgins Region, and on the south by the Ñuble Region. Claro River (Teno)
The Claro River is a river of Chile located in the Maule Region. It rises in the Andes, at the confluence of the Los Cajones River and Del Planchón River. It empties into the Teno River near the city of Los Queñes. In February 1991, eruptions from the volcanic complex of Planchón-Peteroa (Planchón (3977 m) and Peteroa (4101 m)) 35 km southeast Los Queñes contaminated the water and killed large numbers of fish. Planchón-Peteroa
Planchón-Peteroa is a complex volcano extending in a north–south direction along the border between Argentina and Chile. It consists of volcanoes of various ages with several overlapping calderas. Those include Volcán Planchón, Volcán Peteroa and Volcán Azufre. A partial collapse of the complex about 11,500 years ago produced a major debris avalanche, which followed the course of the Teno River until reaching the Chile Central Valley. Peteroa has a crater lake. Lagunas de Teno lies at the foot of Planchón volcano. In this area also is the Vergara International Pass. September 6, 2010 eruption Planchón-Peteroa Volcano erupted on September 6, followed by a stronger eruption on September 18. On September 21, the volcano erupted once again, emitting a dark gray plume of volcanic ash. The Pan-American Highway is a vast network of roads that stretches about 30,000 kilometers (about 19,000 miles) from Prudhoe Bay, Alaska, in the northernmost part of North America to Ushuaia, Argentina, at the southern tip of South America.
