State Route 444 (SR 444) is a state highway completely within Loudon County in the eastern portion of the U.S. state of Tennessee. It serves the resort community of Tellico Village, and connects the village with Lenoir City. Route description SR 444 begins at an intersection with SR 72. It travels to the northeast, crossing over a segment of Tellico Lake and passing through the resort community of Tellico Village, the highway passes northwest of Toqua Golf Club. After skirting along the western shore of the lake, SR 444 travels farther to the west. It curves back to the east, passing through Tanasi Golf Club. The highway then crosses over another segment of the lake and leaves Tellico Village. Then, it curves to the northeast. After a curve to the southeast, it meets its eastern terminus, an interchange with US 321/ SR 73/ SR 95 just southeast of Lenoir City. Vonore, Tennessee
Vonore is a town in Monroe County, which is located on the southeast border of the U.S. state of Tennessee. The population was 1,574 as of the 2020 census. The city hall, library, community center, police department, and fire department are located on Church Street. History Vonore developed at the confluence of the Little Tennessee River and the Tellico River, a place of indigenous settlement for thousands of years. It was a center of numerous Cherokee towns along the rivers. Vonore is near the center of one of the richest archaeological regions in the southeastern United States. Tellico Lake
Tellico Dam is a dam built by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) in Loudon County, Tennessee, on the Little Tennessee River as part of the Tellico Project. Planning for a dam structure on the Little Tennessee was reported as early as 1936 but was dismissed until 1942 for official development. Unlike the agency's previous dams built for Hydroelectricity, hydroelectric power and flood control, Tellico Dam would be constructed to support tourism and economic development through the Planned community, planned city concept of Timberlake, which aimed to support a population of 42,000 in a rural region that was documented being in poor economic conditions. Completed in 1979, it created the Tellico Reservoir and is the last dam to be built by the Tennessee Valley Authority. List Of State Routes In Tennessee
The Tennessee state routes do not follow a systematic numbering system unlike the U.S. Highway System and some other states' highway systems. The routes are separated into primary and secondary routes though. Many of the routes are hidden in that they are overlaid on U.S. Routes and not signed. The mile markers throughout Tennessee, however, show the state route number for these hidden routes. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) maintains these routes under the "State Highways" title of state law, but designates them as "state routes". State Route 95 (SR 95) is a state route in the U.S. state of Tennessee. It serves to connect Lenoir City with Greenback and Oak Ridge, via U.S. Route 321. Route description SR 95 serves as a secondary route between its southern terminus in Greenback and I-40 and as a primary highway for the rest of its duration. SR 95 begins at US 411 ( SR 33), in Greenback, and goes northwest predominantly along Lenoir City Road. Curving through the Red Knobs, it passes through the communities of Centersville and Glendale, before reaching US 321 ( SR 73). This section of SR 95 is two-lane throughout, with no shoulders and minimum allowable lane widths. State Route 73 (SR 73) is west-north state highway in East Tennessee. For most of its length, it is an unsigned companion route to U.S. Route 321 (US 321). Route description SR 73 begins at an interchange with Interstate 40 (I-40) concurrent with U.S. Route 321 (US 321) and SR 95 south of Oak Ridge and north of Lenoir City. The three highways head south to an intersection with US 70 and I-75 in Lenoir City. They then continue southeast to intersect US 11 in Lenoir City. State Route 72 (SR 72) is a state highway in the eastern portion of U.S. state of Tennessee. It travels through the towns of Vonore and Loudon. Route description Roane County SR 72 begins in Roane County at an intersection with SR 58 just east of Midway. It then goes east as a narrow, curvy, 2-lane highway as it goes through Midway and then some mountains before entering Paint Rock and having a junction with SR 322, a loop route through Sweetwater. It stays curvy as it crosses more mountains and enters Loudon County. Lenoir City, Tennessee
Lenoir City is a suburban city in Loudon County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 10,117 at the 2020 Census. It is included in the Knoxville metropolitan area in the state's eastern region, along the Tennessee River southwest of Knoxville. History Native Americans were living in the Lenoir City area for thousands of years before the arrival of the first European settlers. On Bussell Island, which lies across the Tennessee River to the south, archaeologists have discovered evidence of habitation dating to as early as the Archaic Period (8000–1000 B.C.).
