State Route 381 (SR 381) is a state highway in Johnson City, Tennessee, Johnson City, Washington County, Tennessee. It serves as a bypass of Downtown on the north, west and south sides of the city. The route is also a retail corridor, lined with stores, restaurants and hotels. Route description SR 381 begins on the south side of Johnson City at an intersection with U.S. Route 321 in Tennessee, US 321 and Tennessee State Route 67, SR 67. US 321 and SR 381 run concurrently for 2.8 miles north, they then turn west and back north again, to a junction with US Route 11E, US 11E where US 321 heads west along US 11E and SR 381 continues north through a retail area. Johnson City is a city in Washington, Carter, and Sullivan counties in the U.S. state of Tennessee, mostly in Washington County. As of the 2020 United States census, the population was 71,046, making it the eighth largest city in Tennessee. U.S. Route 11E (US 11E) is a divided highway of US 11 in the U.S. states of Tennessee and Virginia. The U.S. Highway, which is complemented by US 11W to the north and west, runs from US 11, US 11W, and US 70 in Knoxville, Tennessee north and east to US 11, US 11W, US 19, and US 421 in Bristol, Virginia. In Unicoi County, it serves as the hidden concurrency of U.S. Route 19W; in Washington and Sullivan counties, it serves as a stand-alone secondary road connecting the cities of Johnson City and Kingsport. Route description Segment 1 SR 36 begins in Unicoi County as the unsigned companion route of US 19W at the Tennessee-North Carolina state line. State Route 34 (SR 34) is a state highway located in East Tennessee. The route traverses several cities through eight counties from the Knoxville area to the North Carolina state line via Greeneville and Bristol. The portion from Carter to Bristol is concurrent with U.S. Route 11E (US 11E) while the portion from Bristol to North Carolina is concurrent with US 421. A single-point urban interchange (SPUI, or ), also called a single-point interchange (SPI) or single-point diamond interchange (SPDI), is a type of highway interchange. The design was created in order to help move large volumes of traffic through limited amounts of space safely and efficiently. Description A SPUI is similar in form to a diamond interchange but has the advantage of allowing opposing left turns to proceed simultaneously by compressing the two intersections of a diamond into one single intersection over or under the free-flowing road.
