Tennessee State Route 228
State Route 228 (SR 228) is a long east-west state highway located entirely in the mountains of northern Wayne County, Tennessee. Route description SR 228 begins in Clifton at an intersection with SR 128 northeast of downtown and just north Hassell-Carroll Field Airport. It goes east as Morrison Creek Road to wind its way through mountains to leave Clifton and come to an intersection with Beech Creek Road, where SR 228 makes a sharp right turn to follow that road. The highway then traverses a narrow valley for several miles, where it passes through the community of Leatherwood. SR 228 then turns northeast and makes a very steep ascent up a mountain before coming to an end at an intersection with SR 13 between Waynesboro and Linden. The entire route of SR 228 is a two-lane highway and lies entirely on the Highland Rim. Waynesboro is a city in and the county seat of Wayne County, Tennessee, United States. The population was 2,449 at the 2010 census, up from 2,228 in 2000. History Waynesboro was founded in 1821 as a county seat for the newly created Wayne County. The city initially consisted of a plot that included the courthouse and jail. State Route 128 (SR 128) is a state highway in western and western Middle Tennessee. It connects Pickwick Dam with Linden, via Savannah and Clifton. Route description Hardin County SR 128 begins as a primary highway in Hardin County in the community of Pickwick Dam at an intersection with SR 57, just north of the Mississippi state line. The highway then goes north and crosses overtop of Pickwick Landing Dam, which impounds the Tennessee River, before leaving Pickwick Dam and continuing north through rural areas. It then passes through the communities of Nixon, where it has an intersection with SR 226, and Walkertown before entering the city of Savannah and coming to an intersection and becoming concurrent with US 64/SR 15/ SR 69 in downtown. State Route 13 (SR 13), in the United States, is a south–north route from the Alabama border in Wayne County to the Kentucky border in Montgomery County. The entire route is located in western Middle Tennessee. For the majority of its length, SR 13 is designated as a primary highway, except between Erin and Cunningham, which is designated as a secondary highway. Route description Wayne County SR 13 begins at the Alabama state line in Wayne County just south of Fairview, where it continues south as SR 17. It then goes north through Fairview and has an intersection and short concurrency with SR 227 before continuing north, crossing under, and paralleling the Natchez Trace Parkway for a few miles to Collinwood, where it intersects with SR 203. Highland Rim
The Highland Rim is a geographic term for the area in Tennessee surrounding the Central Basin. Nashville is largely surrounded by higher terrain in all directions. Geologically, the Central Basin is a dome. The Highland Rim is a cuesta surrounding the basin, and the border where the difference in elevation is sharply pronounced is an escarpment. Nashville is located in the northwestern corner of the basin. Geology and Physiography The Highland Rim is a physiographic section of the larger Interior Low Plateaus province, which in turn is part of the larger Interior Plains physiographic division.
