State Route 199 (abbreviated SR 199) is a Secondary state road, located in West Tennessee, and starts at US 45 in the town of Finger in northern McNairy County, and travels southeastward to Leapwood within the same county. Route description SR 199 begins in Finger at an intersection with US 45/ SR 5. It goes east as a rural 2-lane highway as it passes through town before leaving Finger and turning southeast. It continues to wind its way southeast through rural areas before entering Leapwood, where it comes to an end at an intersection with SR 224. Finger, Tennessee
Finger is a town in Chester and McNairy counties, Tennessee. The population was 350 at the 2000 census. History The area in and around Finger was settled in the early to mid-1820's. Originally named McIntyre's Crossing, after Robert Thompson McIntyre, who was an early political leader and businessman, it was not named Finger until 1895. Between its settlement and 1895, the area progressed and both education and business were important to the area's inhabitants. During the American Civil War, the area provided many soldiers to the Union cause and the area largely Unionist and Republican in its politics. In 1895, with the need of a post office to serve its growing population, a new name was needed to satisfy federal postal authorities. Originally, the town was to be named ''Cash.'' However, that idea was dropped and, according to the late historian Horry Hodges, the Rev. J.J. West Tennessee
West Tennessee is one of the three Grand Divisions of the U.S. state of Tennessee that roughly comprises the western quarter of the state. The region includes 21 counties between the Tennessee and Mississippi rivers, delineated by state law. Its geography consists primarily of flat lands with rich soil and vast floodplain areas of the Mississippi River. Of the three regions, West Tennessee is the most sharply defined geographically, and is the lowest-lying. It is both the least populous and smallest, in land area, of the three Grand Divisions. State Route 5 (SR 5) is a north–south state highway in the western part of the U.S. state of Tennessee. Except for the section northwest of Union City, it is entirely concurrent with U.S. Route 45 (US 45) and US 45W. Route description McNairy County SR 5 begins in McNairy County as the hidden designation for US 45 at the Mississippi state line just north of Corinth. The highway goes north as a 4-lane divided highway to an intersection with Old US Highway 45 S (a connector to MS 145), where it narrows to an undivided 4-lane and passes through the town of Guys. State Route 224 (SR 224) is a north-south state highway that is located almost entirely in McNairy County, Tennessee, connecting Michie with Enville via Stantonville and Adamsville. Route description SR 224 begins in McNairy County in downtown Michie at an intersection with SR 22. It heads north along Michie Pebble Hill Road to have an intersection with SR 57 before leaving Michie and passing through some wooded areas. The highway then enters farmland shortly before entering Stantonville, where it has a short concurrency with SR 142.
