State Route 139 (SR 139) is a state highway in Jefferson and Sevier counties in the eastern portion of the U.S. state of Tennessee. It connects Strawberry Plains to Dandridge. Route description SR 139' begins in Jefferson County in Strawberry Plains at an intersection with US 11E/ SR 34. The road heads southeast through farmland to an intersection and runs concurrently with US 25W/ US 70/ SR 9 at an intersection with Snyder Road, which serves as a connector to SR 66 and I-40. The highway travels west for a short distance before crossing into Sevier County. SR 139 then splits off and goes southeast again to pass under I-40 before entering Kodak. Strawberry Plains, Tennessee
Strawberry Plains is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Jefferson, Knox, and Sevier counties in the State of Tennessee, United States. Before 2010, it was treated by the United States Census Bureau as a census county division. It is included in both the Knoxville Metropolitan Statistical Area and the Morristown Metropolitan Statistical Area. The population of the CDP, which only covers the Jefferson County portion of the community, was 2,405 at the 2020 census. History The community that would become Strawberry Plains would be settled in 1785 by Adam Meek, a pioneer from North Carolina who would first settle in nearby Rocky Valley, and the first established settlement of newly founded Jefferson County. Douglas Dam
Douglas Dam is a hydroelectric dam on the French Broad River in Sevier County, Tennessee, in the southeastern United States. The dam is operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), which built the dam in record time in the early 1940s to meet emergency energy demands at the height of World War II. Douglas Dam is a straight reinforced concrete gravity-type dam 1705 feet (520 m) long and 202 feet (62 m) high, impounding the Douglas Lake. 1983 Tennessee State Highway Renumbering
The 1983 Tennessee state highway renumbering occurred when the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) took control of approximately of city and county maintained roads, designating them as state routes. As part of this process, most state routes with suffixed or special designations were renumbered with general numerical designations, and the state route system was divided into primary and secondary highways. Background The Tennessee Department of Highways, predecessor to the Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT), was founded in 1915, and gradually assumed control of major routes throughout the state. The first 78 state routes were designated on October 1, 1923, and additional routes were added over the course of the succeeding decades. State Route 92 (SR 92) is a state highway in East Tennessee with both four lane and two lane sections. Route description SR 92 begins at US 411/ SR 35 in Chestnut Hill. It heads north toward Dandridge and crosses over the French Broad River/Douglas Lake just inside Dandridge city limits, just after crossing the river/lake it junctions with SR 139 in downtown. It the junctions with US 25W, US 70 and SR 66 in downtown Dandridge. Douglas Lake
Douglas Lake, also called Douglas Reservoir, is a reservoir created by an impoundment of the French Broad River in Eastern Tennessee. This lake is located only a few miles from the Pigeon Forge/ Gatlinburg area, and also the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Douglas Dam was built by the Tennessee Valley Authority at a record pace from February 2, 1942, through February 19, 1943, to provide hydroelectric power and to control flooding downstream in the Tennessee River Valley. Douglas Dam is located just over upstream from the French Broad River's confluence with the Holston River in Knoxville, to form the Tennessee River. State Route 338 (SR 338) is a secondary highway located entirely within Sevier County in East Tennessee. The road runs generally south–north although like most roads in East Tennessee it has numerous winding turns. Route description SR 338 begins at an intersection with US 441/ US 411/ SR 35/ SR 71 in Seymour.
