The Tennessee Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) is an agency of Tennessee government tasked with coordinating the state government's preparation for, response to, and recovery from natural and man-made disasters across the state of Tennessee. The agency is headquartered in Nashville, Tennessee, with four regional offices in Jackson, Nashville, Knoxville, and Chattanooga. Tennessee Air National Guard
The Tennessee Air National Guard (TN ANG) is the aerial militia of the Tennessee, State of Tennessee, United States, United States of America. It is, along with the Tennessee Army National Guard an element of the Tennessee National Guard of the larger United States National Guard Bureau and a reserve of the United States Air Force. As state militia units, the units in the Tennessee Air National Guard are not in the normal United States Air Force command hierarchy, chain of command. They are under the jurisdiction of the Governor of Tennessee though the office of the state adjutant general, Tennessee Adjutant General unless they are federalized by order of the President of the United States. The Tennessee State Guard (TNSG) is the state defense force of the state of Tennessee. The TNSG is organized as a military reserve force whose members drill once per month unless called to active duty. The TNSG is a branch of the Tennessee Military Department, alongside the Tennessee Army National Guard, the Tennessee Air National Guard, and the Tennessee Emergency Management Agency. The State Guard acts as a force multiplier for the state's National Guard. As a state defense force, the Tennessee State Guard cannot be federalized, and is not deployed outside the borders of Tennessee, as it is a purely state-level unit. Waverly, Tennessee, Tank Car Explosion
The Waverly, Tennessee tank car explosion killed 16 people and injured 43 others on February 24, 1978, in Waverly, Tennessee. Following a train derailment two days earlier, a cleanup crew had been sent into the area. At approximately 2:58 in the afternoon, a tank car containing of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) exploded after an action taken during the cleanup related to the derailment. Derailment At about 10:30 p.m. on February 22, twenty-four cars of a 92-car Louisville and Nashville Railroad (L&N) freight train derailed in the downtown area of Waverly. Watts Bar Nuclear Plant
The Watts Bar Nuclear Plant is a Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) nuclear reactor pair used for electric power generation. It is located on a 1,770-acre (7.2 km²) site in Rhea County, Tennessee, near Spring City, between Chattanooga and Knoxville. Watts Bar supplies enough electricity for about 1.2 million households in the Tennessee Valley. Sequoyah Nuclear Plant
The Sequoyah Nuclear Plant is a nuclear power plant located on located east of Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee, and north of Chattanooga, abutting Chickamauga Lake on the Tennessee River. The facility is owned and operated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA). The plant has two Westinghouse pressurized water reactors.
