Teneriffe is an inner suburb of Brisbane, Queensland, Australia, north-east of the CBD. In the , Teneriffe had a population of 5,335 people. Teneriffe was once an important wool trading hub and was the location of Australia's largest submarine base in World War II. The suburb was absorbed into Newstead in 1975, but re-established as a separate suburb in 2010. Teneriffe has a generally young and high income demographic, and is one of Brisbane's most expensive suburbs with a median house price in 2017 of over A$2 million. Residents have access to a riverside lifestyle, restaurants and extensive amenities. Toponymy One of the first European landowners in the area was James Gibbon. He purchased 48 hectares of land between Newstead and New Farm and named the property Teneriffe because it reminded him of Mount Teide in Tenerife, Canary Islands. Tenerife lace or “roseta canaria”is a needle lace from Canary Islands. The first name comes from the fact that the lace made on the islands (Lanzarote and Tenerife) was exported from that island. The origin of this lace is uncertain and it is not known on which island the technique was born. History Tenerife (or Teneriffe) lace is a style of Needle lace that evolved from earlier styles of cutwork lace that generated medallions and rounded motifs in fabric by cutting and stitching groups of threads in existing fabric pieces. A characteristic example of this kind of cutwork can be seen in a sampler by Sarah Thral from 1644. Because of the nature of the frequently rounded structure with angular radiations, it was reminiscent of the sun and also acquired the name "sol lace". Mount Teneriffe in central Victoria, Australia, is a distinctive granite formation, above sea level (200m above plain level). It takes its name from the island of Tenerife in Spain. Most of the area is within a nature conservation reserve with impressive granite outcrops at the foot of the mountain. Mount Teneriffe is one of the outliers of the Strathbogie Ranges formed from uplifted Devonian granite, the erosion of which has filled in the once deep valleys and basins of the Upper Goulburn, the Murray Valley and the Victorian Riverina with sediment. The hill is lightly timbered with scattered small trees on the summit. The site is accessed from Alexanderson Rd and then Jefferies Rd and Oak Valley Rd. Some rock-climbing crags are present on the north west face, including ''Sparrow Slabs, Castle Rock, Eagle Rock, and Vertigo Block''. Mt.
