Tenement (band)
Tenement is an American three piece rock band from Appleton, Wisconsin, United States, formed in 2006. They are often associated with the American hardcore punk scene. Their recorded output has been described as everything from "noise pop" to "fuzz punk", while in a live setting they are often known for experimentation, improvisation, and high-energy performance. The visual art of singer/guitarist Amos Pitsch is associated with most of their records, as well as several records by other notable punk and hardcore bands. In January 2013, ''NME'' included Tenement in their "rising stars of 2013". ''CMJ'' called Tenement a "breakout artist to watch" in 2014. In 2015, Tenement was included in ''Spin (magazine), Spin'' 's "The 50 Best Rock Bands Right Now". In 2016, they were included in ''Rolling Stone'' 's "10 Great Modern Punk Bands". Appleton () is the county seat of Outagamie County, Wisconsin, United States, with small portions extending into Calumet County, Wisconsin, Calumet and Winnebago County, Wisconsin, Winnebago counties. Located on the Fox River (Green Bay tributary), Fox River, it lies southwest of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Green Bay and north of Milwaukee. Chris Gethard
Christopher Paul Gethard (; born May 23, 1980) is an American actor, comedian and writer. He was the host of ''The Chris Gethard Show'', a talk show based in New York City, which aired from 2011 to 2018. He hosts the podcasts ''Beautiful Stories From Anonymous People'' and ''New Jersey is the World''. Early life Gethard grew up in West Orange, New Jersey, the son of Sally and Ken Gethard, and attended Redwood Elementary, Edison Middle School, and West Orange High School (New Jersey), West Orange High School. As a child, Gethard was a visitor of the infamous Action Park. Career Gethard is an improvisational actor who worked largely out of Manhattan's Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. ''The Self-Titled Album'' is an album by Appleton, Wisconsin-based rock group Tenement. It was co-released in July 2016 by Forward Records and Deranged Records, following the release of a cassette version that the band wrote and recorded in the span of a week ahead of an East Coast tour in 2015. Reception The New York Times: "It doesn’t have the same power as a self-contained document of the double album, but it satisfies the urge to hear more of Mr. Pitsch’s rough perfectionism." Sorry State Records: "The Self-Titled Album also feels kind of disorienting, but with a considerably shorter running length it at least gives off the surface impression of being more digestible. ''Predatory Headlights'' is a double album by Appleton, Wisconsin-based rock group Tenement. It was released in June 2015 by New York-based record label Don Giovanni Records. Perhaps due to its length and frequent genre cross-over, it was initially ignored by many established music publications but eventually ended up on ''Rolling Stone's'' "15 Great Albums You Didn't Hear In 2015" list and ''Spin'' magazine's "2015 Overlooked Albums Report". According to ''The New Yorker'', the album "Highlights the strongest aspects of the group's songwriting". It was ranked #100 by ''The Village Voice'' on their 2015 Pazz & Jop critics poll. Napalm Dream
''Napalm Dream'' is an album by Appleton, Wisconsin-based rock group, Tenement. It was originally released by Brooklyn, New York punk label Mandible Records in 2011. In 2012, it was reissued as a deluxe double cassette box set by Drugged Conscience Records. The box set included the album in its entirety on one tape, and the album's demos on the accompanying tape. It also included a booklet; hand made by the band themselves. Limited to 100 copies, it sold quickly and was soon reissued on cassette again by Fullerton, California's Burger Records. In 2012, ''Napalm Dream'' was ranked #381 on ''The Village Voice'' 's Pazz & Jop critics poll. The Bowery Ballroom is a New York City live music venue located at 6 Delancey Street in Manhattan's Bowery neighborhood. Charles Bradley (singer)
Charles Edward Bradley (November 5, 1948 – September 23, 2017) was an American funk and soul singer. After years of obscurity and a part-time music career, Bradley came to prominence in his early 50s. His performances and recording style were consistent with the revivalist approach of his main label Daptone Records, celebrating the feel of funk and soul from the 1960s and 1970s. One review said he "echoes the evocative delivery of Otis Redding". Called "The Screaming Eagle of Soul," Bradley was the subject of the documentary ''Soul of America'' which premiered at South by Southwest in 2012. He died in 2017 following a long illness.
