''Ten Lives'', the fourth album by British singer-songwriter and jazz musician Gwyneth Herbert, was released on 1 July 2008. History In early 2008, Herbert was commissioned by a collaborative project between Peter Gabriel and Bowers & Wilkins to record an acoustic album at Gabriel's Real World Studios Real World Studios is a residential recording studio complex founded by Peter Gabriel and situated in the old Box Mill building in the village of Box, Wiltshire, England, near to the city of Bath. Gwyneth Herbert
Gwyneth Herbert (born 26 August 1981) is a British singer-songwriter, composer, multi-instrumentalist and record producer. Initially known for her interpretation of jazz and swing standards, she is now established as a writer of original compositions, including musical theatre. She has been described as "an exquisite wordsmith" with "a voice that can effortlessly render any emotion with commanding ease" and her songs as being "impressively crafted and engrossing vignette of life's more difficult moments". Three of her six albums have received four-starred reviews in the British national press. Another album, ''Between Me and the Wardrobe'', received a five-starred review in ''The Observer''. Jazz
Jazz is a music genre that originated in the African-American communities of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Real World Records
Real World Records is a British record label specializing in world music. It was founded in 1989 by English musician Peter Gabriel and original members of WOMAD. A majority of the works released on Real World Records feature music recorded at Real World Studios, in Box, Wiltshire, England. History The goal of its founding in 1989 was to give talented musicians from around the world access to state-of-the-art recording facilities and audiences beyond their geographic region. ''Between Me and the Wardrobe'' is the third album by British singer-songwriter Gwyneth Herbert and her first album to consist entirely of her own songs. It was released in 2006 on Herbert's own Monkeywood Records label and reissued in 2007 by Blue Note Records. A review in ''The Observer'' gave the album a five-star rating. Production and release After she left Universal Classics and Jazz to pursue a less commercial and more personal musical direction, Herbert collaborated with Polar Bear's Seb Rochford in a production role for this album. Self-financed by Herbert, it was recorded in three days and was never intended for general release. It was initially released, in 2006, on Herbert's own Monkeywood label before being picked up by Blue Note Records, making Herbert their first UK signing in 30 years.
