Tempe Normal School
Principal Hiram Bradford Farmer opened the Territorial Normal School's four classroom building to 33 students on February 8, 1886, the first institution of higher education to open in Arizona. 2019 College Admissions Bribery Scandal
Operation Varsity Blues was the code name for the investigation into the 2019 criminal conspiracy scandal to influence undergraduate admissions decisions at several top American universities. United States federal prosecutors made the investigation and related charges public on March 12, 2019. At least 53 people have been charged as part of the conspiracy, a number of whom pled guilty. Thirty-three parents of college applicants were accused of paying more than US$25million between 2011 and 2018 to William Rick Singer, organizer of the scheme, who used part of the money to fraudulently inflate entrance exam test scores and bribe college officials. Of the 32 parents named in a Federal Bureau of Investigation affidavit filed in U.S. District Court in Boston, more than half had apparently paid bribes to have their children enrolled at the University of Southern California (USC). ''Ted 2'' (stylized as ''ted2'') is a 2015 American fantasy comedy film. The sequel to ''Ted (film), Ted'' (2012), the film was co-produced and directed again by Seth MacFarlane, who co-wrote the script with returning writers Alec Sulkin and Wellesley Wild. The film follows the talking teddy bear Ted (voiced again by MacFarlane) as he fights for his Civil and political rights, civil rights in order to be recognized as a person and not as property so he can adopt a child. ''The State Press'' is the independent, student-operated news publication of Arizona State University. In August 2014, it became an all-digital publication. It published a free newspaper every weekday until January 2013, at which point its print distribution was reduced to once per week. The editorial board announced that ASU Student Media will begin to focus on "a host of new digital products and special print products." History The history of ''The State Press'' goes back to ASU's establishment as a "Normal School" during Arizona's territorial period. The university's first student newspaper, ''The Normal Echo'', made its debut on October 18, 1890.
