Temotu Province
Temotu (or Te Motu, literally "the island" in Polynesian) is the easternmost province of Solomon Islands. The province was formerly known as Santa Cruz Islands Province. It consists, essentially, of two chains of islands which run parallel to each other from the northwest to the southeast. Its area is . Provinces Of Solomon Islands
Solomon Islands is divided into nine provinces. The national capital, Honiara, on the island of Guadalcanal, is separately governed as the country's Capital Territory. History Under the British Solomon Islands Protectorate, there were initially 12 administrative districts: Choiseul, Eastern Solomons, Gizo, Guadalcanal, Lord Howe, Malaita, Nggela and Savo, Rennell and Bellona Islands, Santa Cruz, Shortlands, Sikaiana (Stewart), and Ysabel and Cape Marsh. The administrative centre was in Tulagi. After World War II, the protectorate was reorganised into four districts, namely Central, Western, Eastern, and Malaita, which were then further subdivided into councils. Makalom
Makalom is a small uninhabited island in the Reef Islands, in Temotu Province, in the nation of Solomon Islands. Nendö
Nendö is the largest of the Santa Cruz Islands, located in the Temotu Province, Temotu province of Solomon Islands. The island is also known as Santa Cruz, Nendo, Ndeni, Nitendi or Ndende. The name ''Santa Cruz'' was given to the island in 1595 by the Spain, Spanish navigator Álvaro de Mendaña de Neira, Álvaro de Mendaña, who started a colony there. Historically, the island has also been called New Guernsey and Lord Egmont's Island, after John Perceval, 2nd Earl of Egmont, First Lord of the Admiralty. Teanu (island)
Teanu (or Tevai) is the second largest island of the Vanikoro group, in Temotu Province, Solomon Islands.Entr''Teanu'' in A. François' online dictionary of the Teanu language. Tinakula
Tinakula is a conical stratovolcano which forms an island north of Nendo in Temotu Province, Solomon Islands. It lies at the north end of the Santa Cruz Islands. It is about wide and rises above sea level, rising from the sea floor. The volcano was first recorded in eruption in 1595 when Spanish explorer Álvaro de Mendaña sailed past it during his second expedition across the Pacific Ocean. Tinakula has also been known in the past as Tamami or Volcano Island. History and occupation The island is uninhabited. A population was eradicated when the volcano erupted around 1840 and pyroclastic flows swept all sides of the island. The island was reportedly inhabited in 1887. In 1951, Polynesians from Nukapu and Nupani settled on the island, reaching a peak population of 160 before the island had to be evacuated with the 1971 eruption. Malo (also known as Temotu Neo) is an island in Temotu Province, Solomon Islands. The large neighbouring island is Nendö Island, Nendö. Nukapu
Nukapu is one of the islands of the nation of Solomon Islands. It is in the Reef Islands group in Temotu Province; the easternmost province of the Solomons. The estimated terrain elevation above sea level is 15 metres. The island contains a memorial to Bishop John Patteson who was murdered on Nukapu in 1871.
