Johannes Musaeus Norman
Johannes Musæus Norman (1823–1903) was a Norwegian botanist, trained as a medical doctor. Norman was the son of a priest, took artium in 1840 and graduated in medicine in 1847. After a short time as a military doctor in the First Schleswig War, he worked from 1849–1857 exclusively with botany. Partly on exploration trips in Gudbrandsdalen, in Western Norway and in Western Finnmark; partly during further education in Paris and Vienna and partly as a research fellow at University of Oslo. He also completed this chapter of his life, and trained as a forester in 1858–1860, in Aschaffenburg, Bavaria. Upon his return, he was appointed Forester in Troms and Finnmark, a position he held from 1860–1876. He is credited for introducing the lichen A lichen ( , ) is a hybrid colony (biology), colony of algae or cyanobacteria living symbiotically among hypha, filaments of multiple fungus species, along with yeasts and bacteria embedded in the cortex or "skin", in a mutualism (bio ...

. University of California Museum of Paleontology. .
Lichens are the lifeform that first brought the term symbiosis (as ''Symbiotismus'') into biological context. Lichens have since been recognized as important actors in nutrient cycling and producers which many higher trophic feeders feed on, such as reindeer, gastropods, nematodes, mites, and springtails. Lichens have properties different from those of their component organisms. They come in man ...

Teloschistales Genera
The Teloschistales are an order (taxonomy), order of mostly lichen-forming fungus, fungi belonging to the class (taxonomy), class Lecanoromycetes in the division (mycology), division Ascomycota. According to one 2008 estimate, the order contains 5 Family (biology), families, 66 genera, and 1954 species. The predominant photobiont partners for the Teloschistales are green algae from the genera ''Trebouxia'' and ''Asterochloris''. Molecular phylogenetics The higher-level phylogenetic relationships of the Teloschistales and other members of the two major subclasses of Lecanoromycetes, Lecanoromycetidae and Ostropomycetidae, were clarified in a 2018 publication by Kraichak and colleagues. In the Teloschistales, the family Teloschistaceae has a sister taxon relationship with Megalosporaceae, and the clade containing these two families is itself sister to a clade containing families Brigantiaeaceae and Letrouitiaceae. Teloschistes Velifer
''Teloschistes velifer'' is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling), fruticose lichen in the family Teloschistaceae. It occurs in Australia, New Zealand, and South America. Taxonomy The lichen was first described scientifically by the Australian minister and lichenologist, Francis Wilson, in 1889. He noted the rare lichen to prefer the bark of small twigs of the plant '' Hymenanthera banksii'', a bush upon which it would often cover an entire side. Description The ''Teloschistes velifer'' is characterised by its partially shrubby, upright thallus—this is the body of the lichen—which often forms dense, cushion-like patches approximately 10 mm in diameter. The upper surface of the thallus displays a radiating pattern and consists of elongated, linear , each about 10 mm long and 1–2 mm wide. These lobes are slightly ridged and branch at their ends, featuring yellow, hair-like outgrowths known as that are about 0.5–1.5 mm long. The edges of the lobes ...

Teloschistes Spinosus
''Teloschistes spinosus'' is a species of corticolous (bark-dwelling), fruticose lichen in the family Teloschistaceae. It is found in Australia and New Zealand. Taxonomy The lichen was first formally described by the botanists Joseph Dalton Hooker and Thomas Taylor in 1844, from specimens collected in Van Diemen's Land (now Tasmania), Australia. They initially classified it in the genus '' Parmelia''. Gustaf Einar Du Rietz suggested its inclusion in the genus '' Xanthoria'' in 1922. James Murray transferred it to '' Teloschistes'' in 1960. He recorded its presence on New Zealand's South Island, but suggested it might be "very local", as it had not been recorded in several other similar locales. Rex Filson proposed the variety''subteres'' in 1969. This variety, identified in Victoria, Tasmania, and New South Wales, differs from the typical form of the species in having larger, clearly almost cylindrical . Description ''Teloschistes spinosus'' has a thallus that ranges in colo ...

This Australasian species was formally described as new to science by Johann Friedrich Laurer in 1827, as ''Parmelia sieberiana''. Johannes Hillmann transferred the taxon to the genus '' Teloschistes'' in 1930. The lichen is found in the coastal wetlands of the East Australia coast, in the Australian Capital Territory, on Kaikōura Island (Great Barrier Island), and Kawau Island Kawau Island is in the Hauraki Gulf, close to the north-eastern coast of the North Island of New Zealand.
