Charles Tellier
Charles Tellier (29 June 1828 – 19 October 1913) was a French engineer, born in Amiens. He early made a study of motors and compressed air. In 1868, he began experiments in refrigeration, which resulted ultimately in the refrigerating plant, as used on ocean vessels, to preserve meats and other perishable food. In 1911, Tellier was awarded the Joest prize by the Institut de France, French Institute and, in 1912, he was made Chevalier of the Legion of Honour. He wrote ''Histoire d'une invention moderne, le frigorifique'' (1910). Tellier died impoverished in Paris. Dimethyl ether was the first refrigerant, in 1876, Charles Tellier bought the ex-Elder-Dempster a 690 tons cargo ship ''Eboe'' and fitted a Methyl-ether refrigerating plant of his design. Joseph-Mathias Tellier
Sir Joseph-Mathias Tellier (January 15, 1861 – October 18, 1952) was a Canadian politician and judge, born in Sainte-Mélanie, Canada East. Biography He was a Quebec Conservative Party leader, but never Premier (his party lost the 1912 election, and Lomer Gouin became Premier of Quebec). He was in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1892 to 1916, as a Member for the riding of Joliette. After his studies at Université Laval, he was admitted to the Barreau du Quebec and he practiced law for over 15 years. He was mayor of Joliette from 1903 to 1910, and, in 1916, he became a Quebec Superior Court judge. He was Chief Justice of Quebec from 1932 to 1942. He was made a Knight of the Order of Pius IX in 1906. He was Knighted by King George V in 1934. Louis Tellier (December 24, 1842 – June 17, 1935) was a Canadian lawyer, politician, and judge. Biography Born in Berthier-en-Haut, Canada East, the son of Zephirin and Luce (Ferland) Tellier, Tellier completed his classical education at Joliette College in Joliette, Canada East. He studied law with Hon. Louis François Georges Baby, Joliette, and finished with Hon. Hubert W. Chagnon, in Saint-Hyacinthe, Quebec. He was called to the Quebec Bar in 1866, and practiced law in St. Hyacinthe. He was appointed a Queen's Counsel in 1882. From 1863 to 1873, he was Deputy Prothonotary of the Superior Court, and Deputy Clerk of the Circuit Court for the district. From 1873 to 1878 he was a Crown Attorney. Maurice Tellier (June 14, 1896 – March 28, 1966) was a lawyer and political figure in Quebec. He represented Montcalm in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1936 to 1939 and from 1944 to 1962 as a Union Nationale member. Tellier was Speaker of the Legislative Assembly from 1955 to 1960.
