Television Guyana, also known as TVG is a Guyanese over-the-air television network owned by the Ramroop Group of Companies, led by Dr. Ranjisinghi 'Bobby' Ramroop, the owner of Guyana Times and Radio Guyana. It is the oldest television channel in the country, descending from the former Vieira Communications Television. The station broadcasts on UHF channel 28, with additional relay stations outside the capital on channels 12 (Berbice), 25 and 35. 480i is the video mode used for standard-definition digital video in the Caribbean, Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Philippines, Myanmar, Western Sahara, and most of the Americas (with the exception of Argentina, Paraguay, and Uruguay). The other common standard definition digital standard, used in the rest of the world, is 576i. It originated from the need for a standard to digitize analog 525 line TV (defined in BT.601) and is now used for digital TV broadcasts and home appliances such as game consoles and DVD disc players. Hits and Jams Television (HJTV) is a Guyanese television network owned by HJ Entertainment. The station broadcasts on UHF channel 21 and is also available on cable on channel 74. History The station started broadcasting in 2007. That year, it was responsible for boosting the Guyanese recognition of Jamaican singer Alaine, which came to the 2007 Guyana Music Festival. Initially limited to music videos and call-in programs, it increased the scope of its content to include entertainment segments, pageants, exclusive interviews and the production of local shows. NCN Television is the television service of the National Communications Network, Guyana. Created in 1988 as an independent government outlet, it was merged with GBC in 2004 and became a part of the current NCN. History The government already had plans to enter television in 1985, when the Guyana Film Center changed from film to video. The unit was subsequently renamed Visual Production Center in February 1989. WRHM, also known as WRHM 7 is a Guyanese over-the-air television network owned by WRHM Inc., it is the second oldest television station in the country and the first to be available entirely free-to-air. NTSC
NTSC (from National Television System Committee) is the first American standard for analog television, published and adopted in 1941. In 1961, it was assigned the designation System M. It is also known as EIA standard 170. In 1953, a second NTSC standard was adopted, which allowed for color television broadcast compatible with the existing stock of black-and-white receivers.
