Telepaís (Bolivia)
Telepaís is a Bolivian newscast produced by Unitel since the beginning of the network in 1997. Its main header is located in Santa Cruz de la Sierra (where its newscast is natively produced) and it has editions for both La Paz and Cochabamba. History Telepaís created after the launch of the current Unitel network in 1997. Its first presenter was Julio Cesar Caballero La Paz, who tried to emulate the format of Carlos Mesa. However, the format failed and after a string of presenters with mixed results, José Luis Pomacusi, arrived to change its formula. The initial changes began in the way it was presentered. From the previous "talking bust" format that showed the name of the interviewee and their position, the situation was now clearly described, like Telefe Noticias. Data tables, showing prices, temperature, statistics, career paths, detailed news, etc. that were read out by the presenter were now included. Unitel Bolivia
UNITEL (UNIVERSAL DE TELEVISIÓN) is a Bolivian commercial television network headquartered in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, La Paz and Cochabamba, Bolivia. It was founded in 1987 in Santa Cruz de la Sierra as Teleoriente, which in 1997 created the current network and bought two Telesistema Boliviano stations. It is owned by businessman Osvaldo Monasterio Nieme. The company broadcasts sports, entertainment, political programs, and daily news programs nationwide in the South American country. As of 2020, it claimed to have the largest viewing audience. The station is owned by Empresa de Comunicaciones del Oriente (Ecor), Ltda., which also owns two radio stations, the Bolivian branch of Radio Disney Latin America, Radio Disney and since 2023, Eres Radio, specialized in love songs. Santa Cruz de la Sierra (; ), commonly known as Santa Cruz, is the largest city in Bolivia and the capital of the Santa Cruz Department (Bolivia), Santa Cruz department. Cochabamba (; ) is a city and municipality in central Bolivia in a valley in the Andes mountain range. ''Telefe Noticias'' is an Argentine TV news program. It is aired by Telefe since 1990. Now, it is the most-watched newscast every evening, surpassing Channel 13's ''Telenoche''. History Telefe had a trusted and respected news service during the first half of the 1990s, but after 1995, was often criticised for the sensational style adopted by its then news director Horacio Larrosa (former Channel 9 news director and inventor of Nuevediario). In 1999, hundreds of workers were sacked, closing Red de Noticias (Telefe's cable news channel) and the 7:00 pm edition was canceled, limiting the news to the midday report. Hugo Banzer Suárez
Hugo Banzer Suárez (; 10 May 1926 – 5 May 2002) was a Bolivian politician and military officer who served as the 51st president of Bolivia. He held the Bolivian presidency twice: from 1971 to 1978 as a military dictator; and then again from 1997 to 2001, as a democratically elected president. Banzer rose to power via a coup d'état against socialist president Juan José Torres and repressed labor leaders, clergymen, indigenous people, and students during his 1971–1978 dictatorship. Several thousand Bolivians were either forced to seek asylum in foreign countries, arrested, tortured, or killed during this period, known as the ''Banzerato''.
